When your athletic departments receive $150 million less than your competitors over a 10-year period, you’re staring irrelevance in the eyes. The great irony is that Scott would have far better product to sell right now if he weren’t the dolt who built it in the first place. Don’t forget that.

I get it. Scott wants to stay on the job. No kidding. He’s the highest-paid commissioner in the land. He’s got a $5.3 million-a-year salary, use of a private aircraft and a home in an exclusive Bay Area suburb. He still hasn’t made a payment on the $1.9 million interest-free loan the Pac-12 gave him when he was hired. Also, Scott owns at least two downtown-San Francisco apartments within blocks of the office building he steered the Pac-12 into leasing a decade ago.

Estimated value of the apartments: $4.3 million.

What I’m saying is, Larry Scott sure knows how to negotiate when he wants to.
