Mario’s salary question

Post by Alan »

MC received a new six year extension last December for over 27 mil. Just over 4 mil a year average, Smith at OSU just signed a new 4 mil a year deal a few days ago.

How long do you think before Oregon signs a new deal with him or looks to lock him in?

Is he worth a 8 million+ a year deal making him a not so easy candidate for other job openings?

His pay has a lot of bonuses involved. I think by winning 9 games and the conference he will be over 6m for the year. He deserves a raise, but the way his salary is structured he should make well over 6mill every year.

Mario's pay is seemingly below what it should be, but he gets support from the school that other head coaches dream of.

*First or second largest assistant salary pool in the Pac-12 (USC unknown)
*Largest recruiting budget in the Pac-12
*Best facilities by a light-year in the Pac-12
*Likely the largest gear and jersey budget in the Pac-12 (and country)

Those things cost money. We could pay Mario (or someone else) more, but would it be worth it if it means taking money from one of those things? The support structure Oregon sort of speaks for itself when you look at how we've done the last 25 years.
