UO President Schill leaving for Northwestern
In a bit of a shock, UO President Michael Schill is leaving to become Northwestern's new president. It's a bit of a gut punch for both the university and Pac-12 as he was seen as among the leaders of the remaining Pac-12 presidents in figuring out what to do next with realignment and the next media deal. The next president will have to hit the ground running whenever they're hired.

Ugh- Northwestern is in Chicago and prior to Oregon Schill was the Dean of the Univ of Chicago law school so this is a return to his midwestern roots.rockthief wrote:Ugh, leaving Oregon for Indiana

For an AD it might be a step down. For a school president, it's a huge step up. Can't blame him one bit for going there.

Yep. Agree with LukeyRid. I'm guessing in the world of University Presidents school prestige is a huge driving factor. Northwestern is a huge step up in that regard.

The pay boost is also a nice bonus. Schill was making $720K at Oregon but the last president at Northwestern was making over $1.5 million in just base pay.

Northwestern is the Stanford of the B1G, until Stanford goes to the B1G, then in that case Stanford will be the Stanford of the B1G.lukeyrid13 wrote:For an AD it might be a step down. For a school president, it's a huge step up. Can't blame him one bit for going there.

I much preferred the joke that this is part of our efforts to get INTO the B1G using our own Trojan Horse, lol.
They've dumped a lot of $ into athletics and the Ryan Fieldhouse is a really awesome looking building. Pat Fitzgerald is a good HC and having a President who understands the convergence of Athletics with Academics is a likely reason he was able to get the job.
We should probably brace ourselves for the eventual exit of Rob Mullens at some point in the future as well.
