Anthony Brown QB

Post by lukeyrid13 »

Currently visiting and all of his recent Twitter follows are ducks related.
He has been the QB at Boston college the last few years.

So.

I used to frequently chat with three guys in the recruiting dept where I'd do my own research and recommend certain players (mostly DBs, QBs, OLs, and occasionally other positions). I bring this up because Anthony Brown was one of the guys I scouted when he was still a high school player in NJ, and though I don't recall exactly what Oregon's QB situation was at the time, I thought Brown would have been a good addition to the room despite 3* status and a pretty unheralded recruitment process.

A few years later, Brown has actually turned into almost exactly what I thought he was capable of. The shortest review I could give of his abilities is to simply say he's almost a clone of former duck Darron Thomas. His pluses and minuses are almost all the same. He's a pseudo-dual threat, like Darron, in that he can tuck it and run but isn't especially fast and would prefer to throw. He's efficient, yet also pushes the ball downfield. Expect him to throw for a high completion percentage (65-70%, depending on the offense and his receivers), but will have probably more INTs than we have gotten used to from Herbert. He has great leadership qualities, understands the game, and elevates his team, but no single skill set (arm strength, speed, etc.) is going to leap off the page. If he winds up at Oregon, I think he competes for all-conference if the OL and WRs do their part.

Very Darron-like.

This would definitely NOT suck!

I have to wonder how it would affect Tyler Shough, though. Would he stick around knowing that he'd be seriously challenged for the starting job again next year, or would he leave now for a more certain opportunity elsewhere?

I like this kid, but not love. We have at least one scholly to use if I'm not mistaken, and who knows if Ashford goes baseball. Not much to lose by bringing in extra competition. And I don't think it would be doubt in Shough, just at this level of football you have to explore all options.

Was he inline to start for BC this year if he didn't want to transfer?

Yes. Though, they're changing their offense from RPO to pro-style, so it may not suit his skillset as well. Either way, he was one of the best QBs in the ACC and country before injury in '19.

Interesting, not sure why he'd transfer then to another school where he'd have to compete for the job then. Thank you STU
