Renaming the rivalry #2

Post by UOducksTK1 »

Try to keep politics out of it. First thread has politics, and another one in offtopic that I helped GoDucksTroll derail. Let's keep this one civil (hehehe, ok no more now).

That's already taken by the Pitt/West Virginia rivalry.

I'm still sold on the Platypus Bowl but I'm open to be swayed. Isn't there already a platypus trophy floating around somewhere?

People always said the CW was "for the right to live in this state," so maybe something that played on that? (Just can't think of anything right now.)

So these are some I thought of in like one minute (and it shows), that I hadn't seen elsewhere.

Battle for the Top Bunk

King of the Valley (King of the Pond)

Bragging Rights Bowl

Pond Dominance

The Beaver Beat Down

We should go in a different direction and make it a battle for some kind of trophy, like they do in the Midwest. Like 'the Battle for the Golden Growler' or something based on a regional staple that would be cooler than the Apple Cup. What do we have that's better than apples? Just don't let people from Portland pick it, or it will be the Quinoa Cup or the Battle for the Kombucha Scoby.

Filberts (Hazlenuts) were the first thing that came to my mind because of all the trees down there. Blackberries, Marionberries... I hadn't thought of Christmas Trees, but I was thinking of the forests/ Doug Firs, etc. We already have the 'Deep in the Woods' thing at Matt Court. I also thought of Rhododendrons/Azaleas as a regional-specific flower. If it was Hermiston, I'd say watermelons, but those don't grow as well on this side. A trophy based on salmon might also work, or elk. None of these are all that original, but maybe that's the point.

I do like the idea of making it a trophy.

They have the Platypus Trophy.

The best idea I've seen so far is the Turf War.

Hey now! Where do you think most Duck fans live? All of that I-5 traffic after games isn't going to Grants Pass.

I like where your head is at, though... I'm just not sure what Oregon really offers as a staple commodity except for logging and Nike.

The Nike Bowl? The Swoosh Bowl? Hahaha.

Rumble in the Valley... Battle for the Valley... The Valley Royalle...
