The Civil War was games played by multiple sports, any game between the Ducks and Beavers was referred to as the Civil War, so naming it a bowl will not work. A basketball game really can’t be a bowl game. There is nothing I really like, not a huge fan of the platty..... not even a little fan, Wilamette River Rivalry but it is stealing it from Texas. As a fan and long time Lover of the Civil War my vote goes for not calling it anything, it is now just another game, my view is that is the only way to preserve the history of the battles Oregon and Oregon St Has had for many decades. It is now just the Oregon and Oregon St game.

The Pond Press
The Puddle Struggle
Battle for the Basin
The Clash for Pond Peace

Of these, Puddle Struggle is my pick.

The Platypus Bowl still works for the football rivalry. Not every game needs the same name. Alabama and Auburn have the Iron Bowl, and I'm sure other football programs have game-specific names. This is an opportunity for big-time branding. That is a good point that other sports will need a rivalry name, too, but football can absolutely be independent.

War on the Willamette, or Willamette War.

And just a hunch, but I think they might pick something with a local Native American flair. Like the Kalapuya Clash, or with the Whilamut spelling or something.

Haha, if I had two profiles, then I would have totally gone Kevin Durrant and backed myself up while defending Mark Helfrich.

That said, I actually kind of love THE POND SCRUM and I agree it's being underappreciated! It checks all the boxes.

Natural habitat for ducks and beavers? Check.
Relevant to all sports programs? Check.
Relevant to the Northwest? Check.
Cool play on words? Check.
Implies a ruthless brawl in which participants may fight dirty? CHECK!
Humorous without being ridiculous? Check.
Minimal syllables? Check.

And the winner could take home the platypus trophy... which would also be highly relevant!

Pretty sure if civil war is offensive to people, as it seemed to be this the change, I doubt anything with war or battle will be accepted. Just my non offended opinion.

Maybe just do away with it altogether. Don’t have names for games against Stanford or usc.

I think there is something to this. A lot of rivalries are made great because of how often they decide a conference champion, or who gets a big bowl. If the Pac 12 was smart, they would step in and make the game with Washington the last game of the season, and we could give that game a name (or a trophy of some kind) instead of the annual Beaver Beat-Down. Even when the Beavers win the odd game, it usually means both teams suck that year.
