I looked at the past of successful commissioners and they were either commissioners of smaller conferences or ADs in that conference. The SEC’s Roy Kramer had been AD at Vandy for a dozen years, and had been a successful coach at a directional Michigan school. His successor Mike Slive was the conference commissioner for a G-5. Both of those guys just ran circles around the competition to make the SEC what it is today.

Oliver Luck checks those boxes. Football background, AD and NCAA experience, football marketing, knows crap football from the XFL. Pretty obvious choice.

If we’re going for politicians who can negotiate through brute force, I nominate Vitaly Klitschko.

Pros: 7 years as heavyweight champion of the world, 45-2 career record, leader of the former ruling party of Ukraine, third highest KO percentage, never been knocked down with both losses via injury stoppage while leading on score, relationship with HBO which is a lot easier to get than Pac-12 Network.

Cons: may not know what football is, most likely very corrupt. So, kind of like Larry Scott but with a steel jaw and a devastating overhand right.
