MC was flat out terrible with team motivation, player development, game management, flexibility and strategy. In a span of 4 years, he lost to unranked OSU, ASU, Stanford, Utah, WSU, Cal, and UA. He managed to take take Taggart's offense that was averaging 50 PPG with a healthy Herbert and dial it back to the mid 30s in PPG. He was overly conservative to a fault and it would cost his team at least 2 bad losses a year. He was so bad with his in-game management, the fans were booing him at the Cal game the year before he left. Look what is happing down in Miami. They had a Top15 roster by blue chip ratio this season and he can't even find a way to make a bowl game. I guarantee that Kelly would have won 9-10 games with that same roster.

Chip may not be the best recruiter, but he is 10X the coach Mario will ever be.
Just FYI, this thread was started over two years ago, before Mario was exposed at Miami.

What are you basing your guarantee on? Chip hasn’t won 10 games once at UCLA and has a losing record overall. How could you guarantee 9-10 wins at Miami this past season?
UCLA has a recruiting / talent issue, not a coaching issue. They won 9 games this past year with a roster that is not in the Top 50 in blue chip ratio. Miami has a roster that is in the Top 15 in blue chip ratio and they play in a less competitive conference top to bottom (last season). There is no way he doesn't win 9 games.

But that’s Chip’s fault. After his first year they had the biggest drop in blue chip ratio in the nation at -13%. They weren’t a top 15 BCR team but he had a talented team and did nothing with it.

I don’t disagree that he would’ve done better than Mario did at Miami this year, largely because Mario’s first season was such a disaster, but I think 9-10 wins is a serious stretch. Especially since Chip’s never won 10 since he left Oregon.

Please check the rankings of the previous classes before Chip took over. They had plenty of talent. 2013 #7, 2014 #19, 2015 #12, 2016 #13 I don’t understand why people keep making excuses for Chip. He has been average to bad since leaving UO, and what Bellotti left him. UCLA recruiting under Kelly, his job as much or more than being a coach- 17 #21, 18 #26, 19 #44, 20 #31, 21 #25, 22 #29

People really undervalue the roster building that Bellotti did while competing against prime Pete Carroll at USC.
