Robby Ashford hitting transfer portal

Post by OregonFan4Life »

We had to expect at least one QB to transfer with Bo Nix coming in. I know his mom was very vocal that they just wanted a fair QB competition which they felt like they didn’t get last year, maybe they think with Nix coming in they aren’t getting a fair competition again. He has a ton of potential, but he’s very raw.

Sucks to lose a two sport athlete though, as the baseball team will certainly feel his absence.

Ashford stopped playing baseball last year and was going to come back this season, so they probably weren’t counting too much on him. I think it was clear that he wasn’t ever going to play QB for Oregon. I wish we had a chance to see him in more than the spring game, but it’s unrealistic for a QB to stay when he’s fourth in the pecking order and behind a younger guy.

To bad he has to transfer to another school before he believes he isn’t a Power 5 QB. Someone will benefit from him moving to TE.

If he goes to Akron, he might get to play QB. Morehead at Mississippi State went with run first barely pass QBs. Loved AB and ran him a lot.

2 of the QBs were going to transfer whether we added Nix or not.

Wonder if they find a project QB in the 2022 class or get another transfer portal QB as I can't imagine them feeling comfortable if they only had Nix and Thompson or Butterfield on the roster after spring camp.

Give Dom Montiel a scholarship already. He'd be a great fit for what we've seen out of the Norvell/Dillingham offenses.

Did he officially enter the portal?

EDIT: Yes, he has officially entered the portal.

I thought he was a solid qb and we can't put him in the Chris Harper category because he never got a chance to play and I'd bet he is a better thrower than Harper. The problem is I think Butterfield is way better anyone thinks. Every time Butterfield comes on the field he is making plays with his arm and legs. So, if Ashford has problems beating out Butterfield than Ty Thompson and now Nix are going to be extremely hard for him to beat out. The funny and sad thing which was a hint that the offense wasn't going to be good last season was the fact that Anthony Brown and Ty Thompson had bad spring games while Butterfield and Ashford were dominating the Spring Game.

I’m in the minority here who thinks Ashford could be good. We’ll see I guess.

This off-season, Oregon has traded Ashford, Jones, and James for Nix, Taimani, and Gonzalez. Overall, Oregon has probably done a decent job of replacing the talent that left. Still need to address RB and WR.
