Nyara Sabally joins Sac State WBB staff

Post by greenyellow »

In a bit of a surprise, Nyara Sabally will be joining the WBB staff down at Sacramento State for the upcoming season. The HC down there is former Oregon assistant Mark Campbell and his staff includes Minyon Moore and former Oregon assistant Xavi Lopez. I imagine Sabally is doing this so she's got income coming in and something to do while rehabbing.

Do WNBA players not get paid if they're injured?

I believe this is more just supplemental income since she's still rehabbing her knee after surgery and can't go overseas to play. It's not a bad spot to rehab and get coaching experience if she ever makes it a career choice after her playing career is done.

Being injured she cant play in Europe like many of the other WNBA players (including her sister) do in the offseason. The WNBA season is also short and they allow and encourage players to get side income.

Good for her and likely a start on what her future career will likely be.
