Amir Garrett makes a decision

Maybe we get Garrett now that we got Brown.

Would be nice but I think Altman probably wants another post player, although Garrett may be serviceable as a SF/PF in Altman's offense.

Were hurting for some SF's though..... We don't really even have one on our team. Singler & Nared is all we have and I'm not sure they match up well defending that position.

D’Angelo Harrison committed to SJU. Their class could be one of the best in the country when it's all said and done, Lavin is unbelievable.

Anyway, I'm hoping a stacked SG/SF class for SJU might scare Garrett away.

Despite Harrison committing, I still think Garrett goes to St John's. Lavin has these kids convinced (fooled?) that he is going to get them to the NBA. In reality, he sent a lot of guys to the pros because they were talented to begin with. Ask any UCLA fan about Lavin's coaching ability. He severely underachieved at UCLA, considering that he was pulling in top 5 recruiting classes every year and was coaching at historically, the best basketball school in the country. He was also able to pull the academic card at UCLA.

St. John's isn't even close to being on the level of UCLA. The school has crappy academics, is in a mediocre part of NYC (Queens), and is the bottom feeder of the Big East.

Lavin is a hell of a salesman. I wouldn't be surprised if he could pull in a top recruiting classes at Washington State.

St. John's lands Dom Pointer

In the course of five days, coach Steve Lavin and St. John's has added two ESPNU 100 prospects and vaulted the program to No. 5 in the class rankings. The latest addition, SF Dom Pointer (Roseville, Mich./Quality Education Academy), committed Monday to the Red Storm over in-state Michigan and West Virginia.

"I liked the small classroom size and felt comfortable with the coaching staff and players," Pointer said. "I also like the fact that Coach Lavin has been so successful in the past [at UCLA]."

Pointer joins fellow ESPNU 100 prospects SF Jakarr Sampson (Akron, Ohio/Brewster Academy), SG D'Angelo Harrison (Missouri City, Texas/John Foster Dulles) and SF Maurice Harkless (Queens, N.Y./South Kent). All four are extremely versatile, dynamic players with great talent. Lavin will be able to mix and match on the floor to create mismatches and Pointer will be a focal point to the Red Storm's defense, which will be able to play man-to-man or zone, and to press and create a lot of offense from their defense. Pointer didn't want to just be part of history, he wanted to make history and he will have his chance for St. John's.

At this point, I would not be surprised if Lavin has convinced Garrett that he's going to be a SG in college and he sees him as an "Arron Afflalo type of player".

My hope is that Jabari Brown is recruiting him. Landen Lucas (who many believe that Oregon has a great shot at) is a high school teammate of Garrett.

I know some posters here were totally against it, but I would have loved to have had Lavin as the ducks head coach after they missed out on some of the bigger names.

With this commitment, you would almost hope that Garrett sees the real opportunity at Oregon versus at St. John's. Even if he would play as a SG, I bet at least one of the other SFs they got is going to be playing there also. Plus with Polee, that's 5 SG/SF on the roster, which leaves little PT for Garrett unless some of them can also play some PF and PG.

Oh without a doubt. Polle is my biggest want by far. And would be the best capper for this class. He's that moster Center that we need.

It just seems odd that so many SG/SF would all choose to go to the same school at the same time. They do realize you need some PGs, PFs, and Cs to complete a solid team. Having half a team of just 2 positions is not a way to build a winner. I see at least 2 players transferring by the time their college careers are over.

Amir Garrett sets first viist

Oregon basketball has seen their interest rise by the weeks and just a few weeks ago 5-star shooting guard Jabari Brown committed to head coach Dana Altman and now the Ducks got some more good news.

“Amir Garrett will be visiting Oregon officially this weekend,” said Findlay Prep assistant coach Todd Simon.

The visit will be the first for the 6’6 small forward.

Garrett has offers from Oregon, Arizona, Saint John’s, UTEP, Boston College, and Virginia.

Definitely good news that Garrett is coming out for a visit. Hopefully Altman and his coaches are able to sway Garrett.
