You do realize Boise plays D1 basketball yes? This "so and so player isn't D1 caliber" is hog wash. Yes, nobody on this team is an elite player, but they are all d1 caliber (except maybe the project seiferth but guess what, you can't teach height)uostudent wrote:A summary of this team:
Catron- has been awesome. Can't imagine where this team would be without him.
Singler- very solid. 2 atrocious games in a row. Is really developing into a nice player.
Jacob- will be a very productive player when healthy
Williams- good scorer, doesn't defend?
Nared- solid energy guy off the bench
Strowbridge- a worse version of Tajuan Porter. Probably the worst player on the team.
Sim- not a d1 caliber player. Should have transferred to Boise with Wiley.
Loyd- talented kid, but wildly inconsistent.
Armstead- has gone from being arguably the best player on a fairly talented team to one of the worst on a team that is severely lacking in the talent department. Looks disinterested.

Re: Idaho @ Oregon
True and I blame this on the lack of leadership by Malcolm Armstead. You don't give the ball to your center 23 feet away from the basket. Catron should not have taken the shot, but no one on the team took the initiative to make something happen. In the last two minutes of the game, everyone was standing around waiting for Catron to make all of the plays on the offensive end. This is the role of the point guard to direct his teammates on offense.Duck07 wrote:Nobody else was willing to take any shots, let alone hit them and Joevan's made em before. It's clear this team is really lacking shooters who not only have no problem taking the open shot but can make it. As for calling it an awful loss - whatever. The team played hard, shots didn't fall and we've got a team comprised of mostly midgets; days like this will happen. I also get the feeling that expectations for this team this season seemed to have changed. If you want to bring yourself back to reality a bit, go back a few pages and see what everyone thought the season was going to turn out like.uostudent wrote:I am really hating Armstead this year. He is the only guy on the team who looks like he doesn't care. His head is not in the game.
Catron shoots a 3? I hope Altman cusses him out after that shot attempt.
Armstead is not a leader.
I'm ready for the Loyd era to start now.
Awful loss.
You're absolutely right that this is a bad team. Garrett Sim isn't a Pac 10 caliber player, but that's beside the point. Before the season, I predicted that this team would win 10 games. Losing to a team like Idaho is still inexcusable. It probably won't mean much in the scheme of things, but it's disappointing nonetheless.oregontrack wrote: This. Every time something goes wrong with this team, somebody makes a jackass out of themselves and writes everything off as, "Boy, Garrett Sim just isn't a Pac-10 player. He's really hurting us." In reality, outside of Catron, everybody on this team has been really, really inconsistent, and that includes Singler, who seems to be every fan's do-no-wrong golden goose. People were crying buckets worrying about Armstead transferring last summer, but he's been AWFUL.
We hustle, and that's nice, but this team remains dangerously untalented, and it's 'best' players -- again, outside of Catron -- really leave a lot to be desired. That Jay-R Strowbridge is our 3rd leading scorer is as damning a statement on the state of the program as I can think of. He doesn't get off the bench on most teams even in this, a watered-down Pac-10.
Completely agree about Armstead. I thought that Armstead was going to take that next step and become one of the best point guards in the conference. Unfortunately, he's actually become a detriment to the team.
I think this team will pull out a few wins at home (OSU, USC, and maybe Stanford or ASU).
I definitely appreciate the effort that these guys give every night. 2011 will be a much better year for Oregon basketball.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

Re: Idaho @ Oregon
I think we all know that this season is going to be a rebuilding year, but it still hurts to lose at home to Idaho. For maybe the last 4 or 5 seasons, it seems like Oregon hasn't had much of a home court advantage and has lost to several pretty poor teams at home. That really has to change in the future under Altman. To be honest, this team has probably 3 or 4 players that don't belong in the pac-10, so it's remarkable that we have 7 wins already. Oh well, we should be better in the next few years.

I don't know about that. I saw Austin last night at the rec center. Sure he's big, but he likes to settle for the jump shot a lot.duckgrad99 wrote:wvduck34 wrote:We need to recruit some big guys for next year or we are screwed.

In terms of rebounding, then yes he should help out since we have like no big bodies. We could have really used Pelle in this class...

Obviously, size matters... Especially skilled size.
Too bad some of these guys would rather play on a team that is already loaded with talent, than become the catalyst that sparks the fires of a smoldering program.

Sometimes I have to remember all that this team lost. Porter to graduation as well as Humphrey, Wiley, Crittle, Longmire, Wilson and Dunigan. Wilson and Dunigan were two top recruits, and we sure could have used the rest of those guys this season. Not many teams could rebound right away after losing all of that.

Saying I saw him at the rec center was more of a show off statement than a credibility statement lol.oregontrack wrote:I honestly can't tell, is this a serious post? I've seen him play before though at Westview, and he does like the jump shot too much for a big man.

I don't know. I guess you could say I am impatient. Ducks football has spoiled me and
so I expect us to win at everything!! Some sort of illness I think.

We have 3 guards and a pick and pop forward coming in next year..... unless Michael Chandler commits.... it will be another ugly season next year.wvduck34 wrote:We need to recruit some big guys for next year or we are screwed.
