Singletary Fired - go after Harbaugh?
What are your thoughts on why Singletary was fired today vs. the end of the season. Word on the street is they want Jim Harbaugh before Michigan snags him. What would be his better move? Michigan or 49ers?

Even though he played at Michigan, I would say the NFL is a bigger and better position. If Harbaugh doesn't take either of these jobs if they are offered to him, I would be pretty surprised. At the same time, I think there is something to be said about a coach that stays dedicated to their current program.

I remember not too long ago it was mentioned that he was offered an extension and then nothing else was said. Harbaugh said today that he hasn't even discussed the extension with the AD. Looks like he's keeping his options open.

I don't think that Michigan is even an option for him. He doesn't seem to be nearly as interested in the job as the fans think that he should be. If you ask me, I think he is pretty much holding out for the right NFL job. And it is hard to imagine him turning down the 49ers job. If he is offered it and still turns it down, I would expect him to be at Stanford for a long time.

Another job that could be of interest for him could be the Vikings opening since they are more competitive than the 49ers will be for several seasons.karlhungis wrote:I don't think that Michigan is even an option for him. My guess is that we see Harb's stay at Stanford for a LONG time, and I think that would be a real good thing. Better coaches=Better Teams=Better Team/Conf Recognition which by the transitive laws of the Universe means that its more likely Chip would stay since he would be coaching against some really good coaches to help keep his competitive drive. As a private school Stanford can pay him a LOT of money and the Alumni are probably being gathered to make him a very, very lucrative offer that also promises him much more job security as well. He's from the area, has kids and he also understands that loyalty to a school like JoePa for example brings with it its own kind of intrigue/aura/status.
I also think that Luck is coming back. It sounds like (from a Peter King article in which he quotes JH) that Luck may stay in large part because of his desire to get his degree and the uncertainty of the next CBA and the possibility of less practice/games and being unprepared. Sounds like a Stanford students kind of dilemma.
Or maybe that's just may wishful thinking about Chip transcended to Stanford...

If I could I would Fire the coach for the panthers, get harbough, draft Luck first overall and then he can pass on some Bi*ches and make room for Jstu to run over people

i would like to see harbaugh stay at stanford. say what you want about him but he's a great coach and he doesn't rub me the wrong way like kiffin or stoops or neuheisel.
it'll be great for the pac x and the west coast to have a strong stanford as well as oregon. competition is a good thing.
wouldn't mind seeing luck play one more year as well, the kid is pretty fun to watch. i don't watch the nfl games only college so it i wouldn't see him play in the pros.

If past history is any indicator, methinks Lame and Full Monte might give it a go, for the right money...

Since before the season started, it has been sort of public knowlege here in Charlotte that John Fox will be done with the Panthers after this season.Duckattack7 wrote:If I could I would Fire the coach for the panthers, get harbough, draft Luck first overall and then he can pass on some Bi*ches and make room for Jstu to run over people
Can you imagine Deangelo Williams and JStew with a real QB! They just need an entirely new Oline and WR corps. Steve Smith is aging and a cancer in the locker room and in the community.
Oh, and a new defense. Now we're getting somewhere!

Sounds like a real rebuilding job down there for whoever takes the HC job. I doubt Harbaugh seriously considers that job.ncduck wrote:Since before the season started, it has been sort of public knowlege here in Charlotte that John Fox will be done with the Panthers after this season.Duckattack7 wrote:If I could I would Fire the coach for the panthers, get harbough, draft Luck first overall and then he can pass on some Bi*ches and make room for Jstu to run over people

Re: Singletary Fired - go after Harbaugh?
It's highly unlikely that he'd go back to his alma mater. The Wolverines would love to have him.....but he's got a good thing going right now in Stanford and I see him staying west of the Mississippi for now. I just don't see Michigan being a ligitimate powerhouse in college football now...or in the near future. Can you imagine them firing Rich Rod, scrapping the new offensive scheme that they just installed and starting all over again....

If Rich Rod doesn't work out, I think they'll go with another spread oriented coach since I doubt they would want to start over trying to get players for another system.polyduck wrote:It's highly unlikely that he'd go back to his alma mater.
