If those moves translate to the college game as well as we hope, James should have Beaver fans crying in the aisles (And streaming for the gates early!) at Autzen as a RS Freshman!

Agreed but lets not forget he also keeps his legs and feet moving and that's a trait/training that makes a big difference!sickaduck wrote:The thing that I really like about James is that he has what all great backs have - the ability to make moves/cuts/change of direction at almost full speed. A lot of guys have good moves, but once they make one or two, they have slowed down so much that they get caught. The ones who can shift or change direction without losing their speed are the really dangerous ones. (See Bush, Reggie)
His video is great and so far it sounds like in practice he showing glimpses of his potential...I can't wait until the spring game!

I am going to have to take a day and come down and watch spring practice to see LMJ in real life.

James has fairly good speed ran a 10.5 100 and Best ran a 10.35 100 so yeah Best if faster but James has some speed also. I would guess running with our track coaches will help his overall speed as well as lifting weights at UO for the last year.

10.5 in the 100 is FAST. Faster then most players...This kid has wheels. With as quick as his feet are and his lateral movement...this is very promising.buckmarkduck wrote:James has fairly good speed ran a 10.5 100 and Best ran a 10.35 100 so yeah Best if faster but James has some speed also. Has he put on any size since High School?
How is his shoulder? Didn't he recently have surgery?

What level of play is this? Most of the defenders look pretty small and slow...just wondering. Hopefully he can learn to run and not dance around. That kind of stuff doesn't fly playing the big boys.

3A in Texas. Not terrible competition, but not exactly the State of Miami, either. Watching James though, he'd excel at any level of HS football. Just tremendous burst and agility. But most impressive, imo, is his patience and field awareness. I love how he doesn't put it in 5th until there's space to do so. His running style is perfect for his size and abilities. You take a runner like James and throw him into an offense that already creates a ton of space for its ball carriers, and great things are going to happen. He's so damn shifty and tough to get a handle on, that he doesn't need those giant holes to hit that second level like so many other backs do. This guy was made to play in our offense as a tandem with a guy like Blount.nogerO wrote:What level of play is this? Most of the defenders look pretty small and slow...just wondering. How about this guy? I think there's a chance he ends up being better than both JJ & LaJ

I have to agree - with the additional comment that the "lightning is back!" in the lineup - a perfect compliment to a bruiser like LB (I gotta believe he'll get his act together enough to get out of Coach B's doghouse) or (possibly) CH. Having two backs with such varied capabilities really does keep a defense a little out of sync rather than getting used to and adjusting to one style of running.
Liked the "stiff arm" comment - just so it doesn't mess with his bad shoulder.

With respect to up-coming young guns such as LMJ, Cliff Harris, Chris Harper, and Jamere Holland, in addition to the experienced guys the Ducks are already using... Is there going to be an all-out battle for the punt/kick return positions next fall, or what?

wounded, we can only hope so. imagine how confused the other teams kickers will be - never knowing who to kick away from since the stable will continually change. Plus, I hope our D forces them to kick more often (from their own end zone would be nice).
