Alex Khvatov: Why did you decide to leave the Ducks?
Jackie Bates: Okay, I am going to be straight forward. I went to a party. I got into an altercation with a guy who was drunk. Personally, I don’t drink. This guy was out of his mind. He swung at me. I defended myself and I hit him. The police were called and they investigated. Coach Bellotti was mad that I was at a party before we were about to start spring ball. He felt that I should be at home resting. This all happened before my junior season. He suspended me indefinitely. The police investigated and found out that it was a mutual fight. The case was dismissed, and I was supposed to start again that year. Coach Bellotti called me and told me that I could come back. But I was so overwhelmed and I couldn’t focus on football that spring. I actually played in the first two games that season. But I got hurt during the third game against Fresno State. I still felt that the whole situation hung over me. My family was unhappy about the situation. I didn’t want to come back to the team again. I continued to go to school until the next spring. Then I felt that I had to regain my focus elsewhere.

Blount is no where near as severe as that.

I thought JB was an excellent CB, if memory serves. I was pretty excited to get two quality DBs that year (and Glasper) and I wasn't surprised he was the better of the two and its brutal he didn't finish his career at the O!

I agree, JB was very good and with the injury in only the 2nd game of his Jr. year he could have gotten an extra hardship year. I don't think JB has any where close to the problem that Bates had or we would have heard something official by now.

Re: BLount and Pritchett suspended
A current "rumour" suggests that this is not a legal issue, but rather one of academics. Namely, LGB failed to take, pass, test out, whatever, a required class for his declared major.
While seeming on the surface like no big deal, he may actually no longer qualify academically to play for the UO next season.
Obviously we will hear and know much more over the next week or so, but I have a sinking feeling that he is indeed, one and done...

That would really suck. I guess that would open up the door for you know who to commit to Oregon though.

Blount says it has nothing to do with grades, that he missed too many team activities partly due to being sick and sounds like he didn't bother calling any coach to report in.

Nice, sounds like we really don't have anything to worry about with Blount then.

Thats what it sounds like. He said he contemplated jumping but decided to come back to build his stock next year so he can get more $$$ in the pros.

Re: BLount and Pritchett suspended
My friends and I always sort of knew that Jackie got suspended for that fight. I remember being at that party and seeing that fight. Jackie actually didn't do anything, but it was the people he was hanging out with so he is sort of guilty by association.
