Dana Altman exceeding expectations

Altman is an exceptional coach, that's pretty evident through almost one season. I'm curious if he can get Oregon on the top half of the Pac when he starts getting more talent.

Nice article. I agree with just about all of what is in it. Really looking forward to seeing what this team can do as soon as next year.

It's gone from Dana Altman? Who, what and where. To a possible coach
of the year in the pac10? I like to watch him on the side lines. Clapping
for his team, teaching and he shows a true passion for the game. He
has blown my expectations out of the water. And all this with a team
that was decimated with players leaving and injury's.

This coaching staff has done an incredible job, I love Oregon sports
no matter what they are. All Ive ever wanted to see in basketball is
a team that plays hard the whole game. check. A team that actually
runs an offense. Check. A team that plays tough defense. Check.
A team that actually plays together as one. Check. I think once he
has depth and kids that can score the ball at every position then this
style of play will be a nightmare for the rest of the league. If Ernie could
have gotten his players to play like this together then he would still
be here. But Ernie is in the past now and i believe the future is bright
for Oregon basketball. I was like others in following all the rumors and
hoping and wishing for big hire. Disappointed at first, but that has been
replaced now with I think they made a big hire and we just didn't know it.

Thanks for the kind words. To be honest it was a pretty interesting article to write because I still didn't know too much about Altman and his years at Creighton. He has certainly so far looked to be a great hire and I'm definitely excited to see what the upcoming years hold.

Even before coaching Oregon, he did show an ability to coach in a major conference when he was with Kansas State. I think he would have had a lot of long-term success there had he not been forced out.

Here's hoping Oregon fans never develop that sense of entitlement that drives away a conference COY a year after he wins the honor.

X and O are the same at the mid major level or the Pac 10, so I was never concerned if he could coach or not, what I was concerned with was recruiting. So far he seems to be hitting it pretty hard, and if he can land 1-2 bigs in this next class it will go a long ways in helping him build a contented in the Pac-10.

Recruiting for the next class needs to build post depth as he seems to have adequately addressed the wing and guard positions. He'll probably still take two guards/wings in the 2012 class since the team will be losing Sim, Armstead, Williams, and Joseph after next season.

A lot better than just, "Move! Move! Move!" from Kent in the final years.
