Even sloppier.

Basically, Oregon dominated the first 28 minutes of this game (up 20), then Boise figured out they had this tiny little guard who could stroke treys. Not sure why he hadn't played up to that point, but next thing you know we're getting careless with a big lead and they're dropping bombs. Suddenly, it's a 6 point game.

Boise forgot to play D the last few possessions, though, Catron snuck behind the fullcourt D twice in the last 90 seconds for easy dunks. He really did take over late though, everytime we needed a bucket he got us one. Nared seemed to find him a lot, good interior passing tonight.

EJ was great, his shot was clicking from the beginning. Sim was really good, Armstead had himself a nice evening.
Thanks, great recap.

At the game. Sloppy it was. A lot of turnovers by both teams. But what stuck
out like a sore thumb to me was how bad the officials were. For both sides.
Some just horrible calls that even the little old lady next to me could see.
They wouldn't let the teams play with out calling a foul. If they were Pac10
officials they should be let go. There wasn't a flow to the game, every time
down the floor the whistle sounded it seemed like. Despite the officials Catron
was a beast in the game. He got mugged so many times i lost track. He is
a true warrior. He did make some bad plays to. Thought Malcom was in
good control of the game. EJ was hitting the three's and playing tough d.
Thought Garret played pretty well except when they pressured him. Nared is
a huge key for this team. Played pretty well. The guy that i couldn't figure
out was Strowbridge. He was a non factor. Williams played pretty well, hit
a couple of three's when we needed them.
Gonna be tough for the Ducks in Omaha. Altman back and the
players left over will be jacked up to play against him. The crowd will
be electric I'm sure. I think it will come down to Oregon winning to
games at home. Hope I'm wrong.

I agree, winning at Creighton will be tough. They're going to be jacked.

I also agree on the officiating. I bitched about it after the Duquesne game, but it wasn't any better tonight. They didn't call anything early on -- Catron got mugged down low with no call, and seconds later at the other end we hacked their big guy with no whistle -- and both coaches really got on the officials, and from that point on neither team could go inside without a foul being called. This crew also did plenty of the two things I consider cardinal officiating sins: make-up calls and allowing the coaches into making calls for you. I've NEVER understood how purposely blowing a second call will make the game "better" or "more fair"; instead of one blown call, now the arena has seen you blow two, and now everyone just thinks you're even more incompetent than before. And there were several VERY late calls where nobody blew a whistle, you could hear Boise's coach scream something at them, and suddenly they 'realized' a foul had taken place. Blah.

If these were Pac-10 refs, then I would consider that the norm for them. They play way too big of a role in a lot games.

It appears the officials are from different conferences. All the comments got me looking and I found a site with info on each one.

http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/rick-batsell
http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/kevin-brill
http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/jimmy-casas

Looks like a lot of info on each official but I haven't really looked at all of it. It might be of interest to some of our resident basketball geeks.

Interesting that they all came from different conferences. We can't use conference affiliation as a reason for bad reffing so it could just be either both teams were bad or that the refs weren't the best available.

The best available are probably working the Big Dance, and possibly the NIT, since the NCAA now runs that.

That would be my guess so they are probably scraping the bottom of the barrel for the CBI.

imagine how bad the CIT refs must be.

and you have to realize these crews havent worked together before. that is why you see struggles in reffing in the ncaa right now too.
