Armstead Departure Opens Door at PG

Post by briarduck »

Great article by Matt Prehm with Duck Territory

Armstead Departure Opens Door at PG
http://oregon.247sports.com/Article/Arm ... t-PG-21724

The Candidates to Replace Armstead
Johnathan Loyd, Garrett Sim, Bruce Barron, and Brett Kingma.

I see it coming down Loyd and Barron with Loyd getting the major minutes while Barron gets adjusted to PAC12/Div 1 ball...

PG will be one of the bigger question marks now, along with replacing Catron. As much as people want to point out Armstead's flaw, he was a Pac-10 quality PG that brought a lot to the table. He'll be missed but hopefully Loyd and Barron can step it up.

Sim is going to play more than most on this board would prefer but I think the kid is a steady guard who makes us a better team.

I don't mind Sim playing PG, he's a SR and for the most part he's not going to come in and turn the ball over a bunch. He's a nice player off the bench and has a ton of Pac-10 experience. I really thought he grew a lot last year under Altman, he'll never be a star but he isn't a liability.

My guess is that Loyd gets major minutes with Barron getting the rest at point guard. Sim did improve, but he isn't really a point guard.

Armstead is a big loss for sure so Loyd and Barron have a lot of work to do this off-season. Sim made major strides this year but in my mind is a much better SG than PG but will get minutes next year at both spots because of his experience and fact that we will be very young.
