I absolutely agree. TP was at his best as a freshmen when he was the designated spot-up shooter, not when he is the primary ball handler. Hopefully Dunigan can develop as an inside presence and Wilson's slashing ability can free him up for more open looks from the outside.pudgejeff wrote:And he doesn't shoot the 3 very well witch means maybe we'll have a slasher on our hands...maybe just what we need to get the ball out of TP's hands and turn him back into the player we all loved

Re: Jamil Wilson
The dance next year? Seriously? Guys, we only won TWO Pac 10 games this year. Next year you think we will win more than 10? We would need around 23 wins next year to go as an at large. If we improve enough to start competing against the Washingtons, Arizonas and UCLAs and go to the NIT and go a long way in that tournament than that would be a good next step. Then, the year we go into the new arena would be the year we make a run at the Pac-10 Championship and a #2 or 3 seed in the tourney. If this group had shown enough to be competitive this year, and NIT worthy season, than I would have agreed with you.

We'll need 10 pac-10 wins probably to make the NCAA's next year...seems doable to me...UCLA will be down...UW will be down...Arizona will be down...Depending whether pendergraph and Harden stay ASU would be down...The pac-10 is full of seniors this year and some really good freshman who will be leaving early

Sure, why not? I don't know that we will be great, but it will be a huge disappointment if we don't finish as one of the top 65 teams. Lack of experience will no longer be an excuse.

Really, we will be one of the most "experienced" teams next year. By Kents reasoning that should make us one of the better teams in country....I can't wait for the excuse he comes up with next year. I just hope to God we won't need one.pudgejeff wrote:We'll need 10 pac-10 wins probably to make the NCAA's next year...seems doable to me...UCLA will be down...UW will be down...Arizona will be down...Depending whether pendergraph and Harden stay ASU would be down...The pac-10 is full of seniors this year and some really good freshman who will be leaving early

Too bad the other school after Wilson wasn't Ohio State instead of Michigan State. I would have loved to see the meltdown from the suckeye fans!!!!

Re: Jamil Wilson
I believe Wilson was the silent I had been hearing about for awhile. Not too surprised by this news, none the less, it is huge news for the Oregon program. They now have brought in back to back classes that are very talented.
EJ Singler will be a great player by the time he graduates. Jacobs was a sought after recruit out of high school and an injury and coaching change sent him to the JC route. Wilson is a top 100 recruit and one that can finish very well around the rim.

Perhaps you'll end up being right, GDY, but I think there's too much talent on hand (even before Wilson) and now they have experience, as was said. It's Big Dance or bust for me next year. I think this year was a BIG aberration. If not, I think Ernie should be in big trouble.

Re: Jamil Wilson
Well and the cool thing is instead of relying on a freshman he just gets to come in and add to a team like Thomas did for UW this year...We never brought in another big time recruit the whole time Malik, Maarty, Bryce, and Champ were here...If we bring in one or two next year this team could be really really special.

Re: Jamil Wilson
It would certainly seem like a reach but considering our recruiting classes, at some point results need to equal the expectations. I didn't expect to have a post-season team this year but I still think only 2 wins is a colossal disappointment. Considering teams are rarely filled with seniors in college basketball I think it's fair to expect these guys to produce next year.duckgrad99 wrote:GoDuckYourself wrote:The dance next year? Re: Jamil Wilson
This is why I think he will be such an instant impact at Oregon. He comes in and will have no pressure to be the star or leader on this team. Porter, Dunigan, and Longmire. He wont need to come in and be expected to score 12 ppg.pudgejeff wrote:Well and the cool thing is instead of relying on a freshman he just gets to come in and add to a team like Thomas did for UW this year...We never brought in another big time recruit the whole time Malik, Maarty, Bryce, and Champ were here...If we bring in one or two next year this team could be really really special.
Teams that have freshmen that have good years are teams that surround that freshmen with multiple good players and that eases the move from HS to college.

Re: Jamil Wilson
That's the key. It's the first time Kent has been able to do that. This team will actually have 2 classes of talent not one great group of players surrounded by mediorce players. Hopefully Kent can figure out some things & have this team ready to goo next year.Mops wrote:They now have brought in back to back classes that are very talented.
Great point too, pudgejeff.

Re: Jamil Wilson
I don't think the dance is too much to expect. First of all you don't need ten pac-10 wins to make the tourny, and 23 wins as an at large???? Really? Last year the ducks made it with 18 wins. There are bubble teams this year with 18 wins. 23 wins would be fantastic but unreal. That would give us probably 7 losses meaning we would be around a 4, 5 or 6 seed. I think next year Oregon will be firmly on the bubble.
Another main issue with our poor record this year was our scheduling. We played a very tough schedule with very few gimmes. Yes Oakland and San Diego should be "winnable" games looking at those games at the start of the year but we also played UNC, Texas, Alabama, Kansas State, Utah (remember they are leading the mountain west). And the Ducks caught a bad break getting UCLA and USC during winter break when a lot of students are gone. Usually during winter break you want to play your conference road games then so the home court for the other team isnt as bad. Next year especially with wilson we will be better.

Good points. Oregon State and Washington State won 7 and 8 games in conference this year. Quite frankly, I think we have more talent than those teams. It's all about "gelling", learning how to play hard for 40 minutes, not panicking and making big plays when necessary. Oh yeah, coaching is important as well.
