As far as LBs already on the roster, don't forget about 4* Tyrell Irvin, whom we picked up just before 2008 fall camp. Seems like he always gets forgotten. Not sure if he played last year or how many college playing years left he has.

I believe he redshirted the 2008 season...making him a redshirt sophomore in 2009.

Dang! Getting all the stud LB's should help our special teams too as they can contribute right away on those units if they don't see the field on D.

Yet again another huge commitment for the Ducks. I was predicting Oregon but I just had a bad feeling he would spurn us and be just one more guy to bolt to CU. Glad to see my gut was wrong and my brain was right. HAHAHA.

We sat with Irvin at the Holiday Bowl luncheon, nice kid and very respectful. He said he is working very hard and needs to work on his foot work and decision makin as the D playbook is vey complex.

sickaduck, you pretty much took the words right out of my mouth/typing fingers. Both the apparent talent level at LB (really, even before these commitments) and how things have fell through for us on DT recruiting over the past two years would almost seem to demand a switch to a 3-4. I've never been a coach, but the scheme obviously works for many teams; and I'm sure it was usually after being in a 4-3.

Thanks fpsduck for the info re Irvin. So does he have three to play three or two to play two?

Knowing NA, we will run the 3-4 but never send the other LB. I'll leave it to himto take a team strength and turn it into a weakenss.
