Yep. It had to be done. It may take years for them to recover and restore their once proud image. Personally, I would NOT want to be the next coach there. Not only because of the scandal, but because they're replacing the winningest coach in FBS history, regardless of the circumstances.

Yep. It had to be done. It may take years for them to recover and restore their once proud image. Personally, I would NOT want to be the next coach there. Not only because of the scandal, but because they're replacing the winningest coach in FBS history, regardless of the circumstances.

I think any coach that would come in after him would face some major scrutiny and struggles as they tried to move past Joe Pa. Now with a scandal and his firing, it's going to be even worse. Fans are going to want someone who came from Paterno's coaching tree or played for him, but the school will probably want someone entirely different so they can move on from him and distance themselves from the scandal.

No they don't. Their feelings are real raw right now so are trying to deal with the loss of a great coach undone by one tragic scandal at the end of a brilliant career. Plus, most of the rioters are college students, who don't always have the best control over their emotions. Once those feelings subside and some rational thinking returns, they'll finally see that firing him was the only course of action that could be taken.

First thing The fans protesting this are idiots. Second, I don't see PSU being able to hire a high cost HC, the are about to be neck deep in law suites by victims of this monster they enabled to keep his freedom for an extra 9 years. My guess is when it's all said and done they will have paid upwards of 50 million + for lawyers and pay outs to the victims. PSU football may not be heard from again for a very long time.

What Penn State needs right now is a Belloti/Meyer type coach, who has a sweaky clean public image (Decent coaching chops is secondary to the public peception)... The background check on this next candidate is going to be more intense and in depth than getting a job with the FBI.

The dollar amount required to hire the high character guy who is willing to enter that Maelstrom of scrutiny could be high, but I have a feeling PSU boosters may step up to see it happens.

Urban Meyer has a clean public image? If over 30 arrests by roughly 25 players, more than a dozen for felonies and violent misdemeanors is a clean record I'm not sure what qualifies as dirty.

tragic scandal? I hate how some people take this issue lightly (like the PSU fans). This is disgusting and horrible. I'm not necessarily calling you out greenyellow, more of just a vent over people who are taking Joe Pa's side.

Once again, there's the rub... The arrest record of the student athletes isn't what is going to gain attention here. The media perception and spin is what they will be looking for.

And, IIRC, hasn't Penn State itself had something like 27 convictions over the a 6 year stretch of JoePaw's tenure? Yet, until this fiasco, his public image was considered sterling by many.

The whole situation is gross, from the multiple incedents of abuse to the lack of responibility and now the nieeve support of JoePa (and other who knew and did nothing), im happy as he'll he got fired (hopefully more to come to JoePa) but shouldn't more firings be on the way? As far as I'm concerned the rest of the coaching staff that knew something should be gone too! Does it screw the current players, sure, but this situation I bigger than sports....and the coaches and school need tp pay the price for knowing and doing nothing!

BTW anyone on here concerning that a good man in JoePa is getting screwed, consider the fact that if he fires this guy years ago and makes the situation public (police and media) he's the hero and his legacy is saved and remains a legend! Don't feel sorry for him, he failed on the biggest stage, when it matted most!
