Chris Harper now our 1b RB?

Post by briarduck »

After the news today, with BB choosing TN, this has to be the greatest opportunity for CHarp to take over as the multi-dimensional player he is! MB eluded a while back that Harp would be used in more of an Daren McFadden type role (RB/WR/QB), and now that our roster is settled for next year, CHarp can be used all over the field and especially at RB where many of us feel he belongs. Harper needs the ball in his hands as much as possible and RB would give him the best opportunity...thanks to BB! I just don't want to see him get wasted like other before him!

So I hope CK uses CHarp at 70% RB, 30% WR and in ST somewhere returning kicks...and yes the occasional play at QB!

It sucks not getting BB but I love to see Chris take advantage and become the weapon that he is!!

I've made this clear before but I want CH at RB so bad. He is that "middle ground" back that would go perfect with LaJames & Blount this year. He has more quicks & speed than Blount and more strength & power than LaJames. He could be an amazing RB, imo. Comparable to any back we've had here.

No, I think LaMichael James is our 1b. His running style is much more complementary to LGB than Harper's is, and LMJ has had a solid year of practicing with coach Campbell. I think LMJ is going to see the second most carries on the team, and CHarper is going to WR

I don't think there is a need to panic and move Harper to rb just because of the Brown news. If Blount didn't come back for some reason or injuries occurred, then I could see it happening. Until then, I think we will be good this year with Blount, James, Crenshaw and Alston. Grant and maybe more will come aboard the following year.

Tray and 99 I agree I wanted to point out that this may get Harper on the field more and you are right though I should have referred to Harper as #2 behind #1a Blunt and #1b LMJ because I do feel the same way! Those three RBs could be a special group though...

Can't wait for Spring ball!

Whether Harper is moved to running back or not, he does need to be on the field as much as possible. WR, RB and even qb for a few plays. Keep other teams guessing and on their toes.

Completely agreed...this guy should be a big part of our offense this year!

Harper is going to be one of those players that will work in any skill position he gets put in.

I think kelly is going to really try to work him in different ways this year.

I hope you're right. This kid needs to be on the field on 90% of our offensive plays in some capacity.

I think we will see him @ RB........5 carries per game max....and we will still see him @ WR.

I Hope we motion him in and out of the backfield like we did with JJ his junior year.

Lots of talk about different ways to use C. Harper in our offense. My question is, does he WANT to do any of these things or is he set on becoming a quarterback. Time will tell I guess.

Honestly, I never thought we would get Brown. Right now we have 4 very good Rb's that I would be fine with any of them seeing major minutes but we do need to get 1-2 in this next recruiting class.

You and I d=d, couldn't agree MORE. We both have been pounding this drum. If willing to play RB, CHarp could be a Heisman candidate imo. Like MB said, he is the best athlete he has ever seen with the ball in his hands. He would get so many more touches at RB then at WR - and with the addtions of our stud new WR's the touches might even deminish further. GET HIM THE BALL.

You're reading my mind bro. I think we need to head over to some Spring practices & tell Kelly what's up.
