That is a pretty silly question considering he never said any such thing. Since we are throwing wild hypotheticals out there, would you call it ridiculous and outlandish if I showed you a direct quote by Nick Aliotti indicating that Simi Toeaina is the best defensive lineman he has ever seen?

This is the equivalent of somebody claiming Nate McMillan said Greg Oden is the greatest post player he has ever seen with the ball in his hands. Yeah, ridiculous and outlandish is an accurate way to describe it. Upon further examination, it turns out Nate actually said that Oden might be the best post player on the team with the ball in his hands. Quite a difference between those two statements.

No disrespect to Harper, but he isn't even in the discussion of the best players I have ever seen with the ball in their hands. If that was anything less than laughable, I think his high school stats against relatively mediocre competition in Kansas would have been a bit more mind-blowing than they were. Given Bellotti's age and profession, it is safe to say he has seen many more players in his life than I have, in person, on opposing teams, on film, on TV, etc. Trust me, Harper isn't the best athlete with the ball in his hands that he has ever seen and he never claimed he was.

MB addressed it more than once & there are multiple quotes out their. Congrats on being the only one do dig up ONE of the quotes so you could prove us all wrong. Honestly, who cares? I know what I heard & read, it still doesn't change Harper's ability.

Haha what? What's wrong with the word outlandish? And the problem here is that Vinny nor I have ever seen a quote like the one you're talking about. Sure if Aliotti actually said that then I wouldn't say he didn't (?), I would just be totally surprised. And it would be pretty shocking for MB to say, since Harper had so few touches last year and really wasn't THAT special when he had the ball. I think he'll be a great player, but at this point he's certainly not one of the best playmakers ever. If either of you can pull up a quote, then fine, we're wrong.

The issue here is that people on this board tend to elevate CHarper to like J-Stew status. But all that MB ever said is that he is one of our best WRs/playmakers. That's such a big difference than one of the best Duck playmakers ever. I think he'll be really good. But I think anybody that really thinks he's THAT good has way too high expectations.

Whether its at WR, RB or at QB (Wildcat anyone?). I am for anything that gets the ball into Chris Harper's hands more often. There now we are back on topic

Slot Back or Wide-Out. My preference is Slot with Jeff Maehl going to Terrance Scott's Right side WideOut where you need a dependable sure handed receiver who can catch less than perfectly thrown balls to bail-out our often scrambling quarterback who almost always scrambles to that right side.

The 1a Slot Back can gain more yards and score more touchdowns than the 1b (though more likely 1c) running back. Think James Rodgers and Dez Bryant.

Plus Harper showed more as a Receiver than a runner, his 2 touchdowns in 9 receptions is excellent. He made a couple of good catches and I saw a couple of real nice downfield blocks. As a running back his 3.9 yards per carry wasn't stellar particularly for someone so dangerous if he can find his way past the first level. Harper's play during the Arizona State game sold me on his potential to be a game changing receiver.

Speed and strength are nice for a running back but they are not nearly as important as vision and runners instinct. Ryan McCants at Oregon State is as big and fast as Harper, and watching him struggle showed if you can't navigate through the first level it doesn't do you any good as a running back.

Frankly if we need another running back for this year we should look at Kenjon Barner, redshirt freshman DB who ran for over 3000 yards and over 40 touchdowns his Senior year, or Malachi Lewis a hugely successful highly recruited big back. These guys have actually played the position and were highly successful at it, Harper hasn't been an RB since his Freshman year in high school.
