Think ESPN wants another all SEC match?

Post by maxduck »

Probably not. Bad economy, people can't afford to go out, and still the lowest rated championship game in history of BCS.

To put last night's rating in perspective, Alabama-LSU on Nov. 5 drew an 11.5 on CBS. Last night's game was down 14 percent from Auburn's three-point victory over Oregon last year. It was down 24 percent from Alabama's last national championship when the Crimson Tide defeated Texas in 2010.
Interestingly, the three lowest overnight ratings for the BCS Championship Game occurred in a year when there was some controversy over the participating teams. The previous low (14.3), in 2002, featured Nebraska, which didn't win its conference. LSU's win over Oklahoma in 2004 featured a Sooners team that didn't win its conference.
There is a REAL big difference maker that could solve these issues: When in doubt, put Oregon in! We can clearly establish that in 02 Oregon should have gone over Nebraska and clearly would have boosted ratings, same with this year against LSU! haha!

In all seriousness though, poor ratings for these games is probably the easiest step to making actual progress in the system. Please just give us an 8-team playoff because nobody is going to care if the 9th best team got shafted or not as much as the 3rd, 4th and 5th teams.

Does this have to do with the BCS games now being on ESPN (as opposed to some being on ABC/FOX in the past)?
