As we mentioned a few days ago, it's a big year for tight ends out West in the 2010 class. Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) athlete Randall Telfer has two schools on top and is hoping to make an early decision.
Telfer is an athletic pass catcher with similar size and speed to 2009 tight end and UCLA signee Morrell Presley. As a junior, Telfer caught 42 balls for 678 yards and five touchdowns. He was used more as a receiver last season but projects as a tight end at the next level.
Stanford was the first school to offer Telfer and the tight end now has seven offers on the table.
"Along with Stanford, I have USC, UCLA, Washington, Arizona State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt," Telfer said. "USC and Oregon are my two favorites and I plan to visit each in the summer and also take an official visit to both schools in the fall.
"I'm going to camp with USC for their Rising Stars camp and I'm going to go to the NIKE Camp in Oregon just so I can spend a few days up there and check out the campus."
Telfer said he would like to commit early, possibly in the summer, but then take the two official visits during football season.
"I'm not sure it will go down like this, but I would like to commit in the summer just to have my decision locked up before school starts," Telfer said. "Then I want to take two official visits, one to USC and one to Oregon, kind of to solidify everything for me. At least that's my plan for now so we'll see what happens.
"I also like Cal, UCLA and Stanford but Oregon and USC are my top two. I grew up a USC fan and I've liked Oregon for a while as well. I'm just looking for the best fit and the school with the best combination of academics and athletics I can find."
Telfer is carrying a 3.3 GPA and will take the SAT later in the year. He said he would like to major in Physical Therapy in college.

No offer from us right now so it'd be hard to commit when he doesn't have an offer. His best chance right now to get one is to impress the staff so much at the Nike camp that they move White to defense.

It also doesn't help that his main position is TE. I doubt we offer any TEs this class unless they are absolute studs.Mops wrote:No offer from us right now so it'd be hard to commit when he doesn't have an offer. Any chance we recruit him as a WR?
Not sure how fast he is, but the article mentioned he played some WR in high school.

Rivals says he runs a 4.7. Now 40 times aren't always correct as most of the time they are hyped up but sometimes they are slower. If it is indeed true at a 4.7 I would think he could play WR in some cases but not on an every down basis and thus I dont think he'd be best used at WR.

only way we're offering that guy is if he is kellen winslow or tony gonzales good. we're way too deep at TE and already have one for this class.

Xavier Grimble is the only other TE we consider this year. And only him since he is THAT good.

According to educk.com, Oregon just offered Telfer.
Glad to hear, because Telfer is serious talent.
Pulling him away from USC will be a challenge.

Agreed. getting him to come to Oregon over USC would be great for our program.UOducksTK1 wrote:According to educk.com, Oregon just offered Telfer.
