question about Zach Taylor

Post by echo31 »

Does Zach Taylor play on the O-Line at all? I know he is our long snapper, and supposedly he was the best long snapper coming out of JUCO, but if we have depth issues at O-Line, couldn't we put him on the O-Line rotation? His profile on goducks.com (http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml ... EASON=2009) says he recorded a solo tackle against the Beavs, which I'm guessing was during a punt return. If he knows how to tackle, at 6'5" and 225 pounds, it seems like we could we use him on the D-Line as well.

What do I not understand about long snapping that is causing me to not understand why we use a scholarship for someone to do only that?

I guess if he added 40 pounds or so, we could put him at center, BUT:

JR Mark Asper, Idaho Falls, ID
JR C.E. Kaiser, Verndale, WA
JR Jordan Holmes, Yuba City, CA
JR Bo Thran, Gresham, OR
SO Darrion Weems, Winnetka, CA
SO Charlie Carmichael, Sherman Oaks, CA
RFr Nick Cody, Brush Prairie, WA
RFr Carson York, Coeur d'Alene, ID
FR Karrington Armstrong, Reno, NV
FR Everett Benyard, San Diego, CA
FR Trevor Fox, Temecula, CA
FR Jamaal Burrell, Compton, CA
(List from Rivals.com)

I don't see that great of a need to add a 225-pound long snapper to our offensive line. We may be young, but we still have a pretty deep OL with lots of big time recruits. If anything our D-line is the position that could use some reinforcement.

Yeah, I thought of that after I typed my post. Since we are thin at D-Line, it seems like he could add some depth at DE. He's not huge, but I seem to remember when we got him last year from JUCO that he was incredibly fast. If he hit the weights pretty hard this Spring and Summer, maybe he could be a backup DE. Nick Reed was 6'2" 248lbs according to the roster and he was a great DE.

Of course, I'm just thinking out loud so to speak, maybe I'm way off here.
