The SEC and Big12 are getting ready to announce a Rose Bowl style, Prime Time, New Years Day, inter-conference football match-up, set to start in 2014. Since it's the SEC/Big12, conference champs probably wouldn't participate, since odds are one or both of these would be in the "final 4".

All the BCS commissioners and bowls affiliated with the SEC and Big 12 were made aware of this new bowl no later than today

Pretty much would be the same as getting 3 BCS bids, for each of those conferences...

They're just trying to call the Rose Bowls's bluff so that the pac and B1G agree to the 4 team playoff with no extra benefits going to possible Rose Bowl participants cause now they have their own 'tradition'

Been in a settlement negotiation all day and just heard about this…I love it. Traditions have to start somewhere and this guarantees both conferences a lucrative post season game.

This way if they move to the playoff system and that limits your appearances in “BCS” games from two to one, then this gives you another big time game. Good stuff for us.

The SEC may be all powerful in football, but hitching their wagon to the BIG12 is good long term strategy.

From the article:

"The champions of the two conferences will be in the matchup unless one or both are selected to play in the new four-team model to determine the national championship. Should that occur, another deserving team from the conference(s) would be selected for the game."

First of all, it is a virtual certainty that at least one of the BIG/SEC champs are going to be in the final BCS top four. Probably both. Which makes one wonder what sort of animal this new bowl is creating. And which bowl, or bowls, are going to be taking the losses.

Does anyone know the current BIG12/SEC bowl tie-ins? I don't have a clue.

Seems to me that the BIG12/SEC have decided to create a new commodity that they can protect and benefit from. I don't see a threat to the Rose Bowl at all. If anything, this new bowl is capitulation to a one hundred year tradition that, thankfully, the PAC12 and BIG10 are unwilling to walk away from.

And with credit to a poster on The Shag for the notion, eventually someone in a meeting on the topic of the BCS will raise their hand and ask "why don't we just have the Rowl Bowl champ play the BIG12/SEC champ."

SAVED the Big East? Bahahahahahaha With the exception of WVU, the Big East has always been complete and utter garbage. Now that WVU left they're completely doomed.

SEC's tie in is the Sugar Bowl , I believe the Big12's is the Fiesta Bowl.
