i'm not going to say that the mariners are going to make a playoff push next year or even the year after, but they really do have an outstanding farm system on the up-and-up. they've got a trio of elite arms coming up through the pipes -- danny hultzen (2011 #2 overall pick), tajuan walker (2010 1st rounder) and james paxton. they're scorching through the minors and hultzen/paxton should be midseason callups this season. our rotation should be pretty incredible in a few years.
the m's are still paying the price of the bill bavasi era. historically poor drafts and some historically wretched trades left this organization dead in the water. jack zduriencik, so far, is doing a fairly decent job. drafts have been outstanding since he came aboard, and he's made some decent trades. we'll see how the next couple seasons go as he further tries to stock this organization with talent.
check out these home/away splits, by the way. the mariner offense, as much flack as it gets, is shockingly decent away from safeco. at home? one of the worst in major league history:
at home: .197 team average, .281 obp -- both lightyears behind the next-worst team. but away from safeco...
away: .257 team average, .307 obp -- both 5th in the american league. this team can, and does, hit like professionals... on the road. but they can't hit worth beans at home. it's not even wholly because of the dimension's safeco boasts; there are other big ballparks across the country that the m's can hit in. we just have the worst homefield advantage in all of baseball.

Mariners are still around the 195 home average, I'm excited to see the young pitchers too. The thing that Mariners screwed up was having the worst record all year long and then won either two or all three games of the final season and it cost them getting Strasburg.

As a red sox fan I don't feel too afraid of him going to the yankees, even my friend who's a yankee fan said why did we get him? Obviously trading him 2 or 3 years ago would've been the best, I guess Ichiro went to the team a couple weeks ago and asked to get traded.

Just saw A-Rod broke his hand when Felix hit him last night, out 6-8 weeks. Also saw Hanley Ramirez going to get traded to the dodgers for a couple minor leaguers. Hanley was one of the players two years ago and now the marlins get hardly anything in return.
