With 4 cupcakes, Tennessee, Auburn, and Kentucky as competition; he wont have to do much to go bowling. Add that to being ranked pre-season every year and recruiting in the SEC, he might do fairly well. He does have a defensive mindset, which fits into the SEC as well.karlhungis wrote:Top dog in a major conference where he is currently dominating vs inheriting a dumpster fire in a conference where he will most likely never see the same success that he is accustom to......Bud Lee wrote:karlhungis wrote:Wow, wtf? More pay...moving from a conference that is in the sh*ter to one that for all practical purposes is on top...a school that it is a prime recruiting location and that has a history of winning?

Re: Bret Bielema to Arkansas
Great hire for Arkansas. Bielema isn't an amazing recruiter, but he coaches up his players and has turned Wisconsin into a very solid program.
Puzzling move by Bielema to take the job. Arkansas has excellent facilities, whereas Wisconsin's are mediocre at best. Other than that, Wisconsin seems like a better job.

I was very surprised by this too, going to the sec where he will middle of the conference instead of near the top of the big ten, even with the raise in money.

They would not of won the conference though it Ohio State and Penn State where eligible.karlhungis wrote:Braveheart wrote:Yeah, this is a bad move unless he was getting pressured out of Wiscy for sucking this year.
They finished really strong, won the conference and are playing in the Rose Bowl again. If he gets pressured out for that, the AD should be fired.

He was only top dog by default this year, with the exclusion of this year Arky is normally in competition for the west division so it’s not like he is going to Vandi or something. Maybe he sees it as more of a challenge? Or maybe he knows he only has a few years left and Whisky won’t write him 3.2 million a year check that Arky will?karlhungis wrote:Top dog in a major conference where he is currently dominating vs inheriting a dumpster fire in a conference where he will most likely never see the same success that he is accustom to......Bud Lee wrote:karlhungis wrote:Wow, wtf? 3.2mil per year won't last long if he doesn't deliver.Bud Lee wrote:He was only top dog by default this year, with the exclusion of this year Arky is normally in competition for the west division so it’s not like he is going to Vandi or something. Dude, Arky is in the West, they don't play Kentucky or Tennessee every year and almost never in the same year and AU will be a big boy again soon enough.
Next year he has Florida at the Swamp and South Carolina as the opponents from the east, so those are going to be tough….add in Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU and he could drop 5 conference games next year. Might drop two OOC games with ULL , and Rutgers. I hope he does well though, there is a lot of talent on that rooster they just need a good leader
