Non- contact injury, broken femur, requiring surgery. 6-8 month recovery time.

"On Day 2 of U.S. Army All-American Bowl practices in San Antonio, Notre Dame wide receiver commit Torii Hunter Jr. broke his left femur Tuesday while running a routine route and underwent reconstructive surgery on Wednesday."

The kid is also a MLB prospect, and will likely mis his final season of HS Baseball.

Wow, I remember when my little brother broke his femur when getting tackled, takes a lot to break that bone. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Hope he recovers quick. His dad was a great athlete in his prime.

Horrific UA practice injury to ND commit

Glad that rivals took the video down. Had a teammate in high schools snap his femur and it was easily the worst thing I've ever seen/heard. One of those you never want to see/hear again.

My son played striker on his HS soccer team, after the starter had a horrible break of the tibia and fibula in a game (Slide tackle on a break away). That kid was down on the field for at least 20 minutes before paramedics arrived.

Snapping the femur, like that non-contact practice injury at the UA combine, had to be excruciating, but also makes one wonder if there may be an underlying physical issue that had been missed in the past.

How do you break your femur on a non contact play? There's gotte be something wrong with the bone that they weren't aware of.

my wife broke her fight femur in 2001. It was not a clean break and involved many surgeries. SHe was supposed to never walk again, but she never gave up and she walks. Her limp is often pronounced but she walks. If the kid's break is a simple one than maybe 6-8 months are accurate, but I am quessing a year, a very careful year.

Probably not a "clean" break. I would think it is a spiral fracture (kinda explodes spirally into several pieces). This type of fracture is caused by a twisting torque force and I have heard of it ( and experienced it) occurring in non contact/impact situations like water skiing.
I spiral fractured my femur in 92 snow skiing and would characterize the cause as a freak occurrence rather than a horrific crash. My path to recovery was Surgery, 6 months on crutches and several months of physical therapy. I took 1 season off from skiing and was back on the slopes the next year.

My kid ended up with a spiral fracture of her femur when she was no more than 7 or 8 years old. Worse than a clean break because those young bones are never the same. She still gets pain in the leg & she's 24. Not good.

Trust me, everything you've ever broken or had surgery on comes back to bite you when you're hittin' 50. So many years of playing sports has taken it's toll on this old lady.
