He'll keep his job based on last year and if he turns them around to get a winning record.
That's how the Beavers do it over time. If they want to make it big then they have to change.

It shocked me too. Regardless of how some Duck fans may feel about OSU, losses like this aren't good for the perception of the conference OR for our strength of schedule. It's going to be tough for OSU to get back in the Top-25 after this unless they run off several wins in a row.

There's a lot more parity between top-tier FCS and mediocre FBS teams than there ever has been. Eastern Washington is an FCS power. Two time defending champ North Dakota State knocking off Kansas State is another example.

Personally, I'll be glad when the FBS stops playing these games. It gives the teams and their conference a bad perception. It's suppose to be a gimme game, but losing it hurts much worse than winning it ever does. These schools are laughing their head off. They got PAID to travel to an FBS school and WON the game! The FBS school is out a half million bucks or so and got tagged with a BAD loss.

Not good, Beavers. I actually feel for your fans. I've been an Oregon fan long enough to remember some brutal losses back in the 70's. That stinks.

Actually, Riley does more with less than just about any other coach in the conference. What he needs to do is part ways with his defensive coordinator. Isn't it Mark Banker? I know they've been friends for years, but he needs a change of philosophy on that side of the ball.

i have no idea what 'does more with less' even means. when osu is quasi-talented they respond by having quasi-decent years, like last year. when the talent is lacking, they go without a bowl game, like riley's done a number of times since he came back from san diego. when the talent is passable but hardly eye-opening they have mediocre 7 win seasons.

osu gets d-1 athletes. i don't know why some people treat them like they take kids who can't do anything. their recruiting rankings are generally mediocre and riley has never once played in a worthwhile bowl game. surprise?

You almost feel bad for them. Two years ago was amusing, but this is just a little sad.

I think we're confusing terms. Yes, EWU is in fact "Div. 1"; but Div. I is divided into two categories -- FBS (the big boys) and FCS (the "little" boys). EWU is in the FCS. The point here is that an FCS team -- yes, a pretty good one -- just beat an FBS one.

Thank you! I've been saying this for years. Riley's teams perform to their talent level. And if the team is lacking talent, it's his fault. I don't understand why everyone is so eager to make excuses for him. He's a nice guy, average coach.

I will never cheer for the beavers unless it helps the ducks for sure, I don't care about the conference looking good. Seeing them lose to lower level teams is amusing and most likely PAC 12 is going to be second or third best conference anyways. Oregonlive has the game recap and the fans comments are hialrous to read, nice opener beavs. They made the Eastern Washington quarterback look like Johnny Football out there.

Is that not what we said with Bellotti and Aliotti? Maybe the coach is holding him back?

I guess those new uni's and spiffy new logo didn't help them.

You never know. What I do know, is that the Beavers had legitimate opportunities to go to the Rose Bowl in recent years. Unfortunately for them, they had a very talented, very innovative Oregon team in their path that derailed their hopes at the end of the season.

Also, they were a Pac-10 doormat before Riley arrived. He brought in some good recruits and got them to a 5-6 record. At that time, after years of 2-3 win seasons, that was huge for them! Dennis Erickson added a few pieces to the foundation Riley laid and built a power there before leaving.

Riley is a good coach. He's just not a great coach. I'm not convinced that the Beavers would be better off without him.
