Dawgs Next big thing at QB, goes to BYU

Post by buckmarkduck »

Sorry not Duck related, but I do love a good laugh at UW expense. According to this article, Jake Heaps choices BYU. I was up in Seattle a few months back, and the husky fans I talked to where convinced Heaps would be a dawg.

It is big news here in Utah. He is a member of the Mormon church, so I am sure that was a huge deciding factor. I hate BYU but I hate the Fuskies more so I am happy with the news!

I've never understood the basis of going to a school for their religions backgrounds, esp for an athlete. If he lives up to the billing (which I have heard s doubtful), he would be better off served playing in a big time program. I mean, every school has their student groups and teammates who have the same beliefs. I know Oregon has a group of Mormon kids on the team, I'm sure others do as well.

Most Mormons feel comfortable going to BYU because the students are very similar and can easily relate. The coaches at BYU are more understanding of the commitments that the Mormon religion puts on males so are more willing to accomodate them if they want to go on their missions. Also, BYU is actually a very prestigious football program; I believe they are at least one of the top-20 winningest football programs in the country.

And they do have a National Championship trophy in their case, a 80k capacity stadium that sells out every game. Steve Young, Jim McMahon (sp?) pedegree...etc. I am not sure how BYU is not a big time program. And like ND, BYU has fans everywhere they go. Not a bad choice for the kid in my book. 0&12 Husky's or BYU? I think he made the right choice.

Eh, didn't there one NC come from a Holiday Bowl win over SMU or something?
They still play in a mickey mouse conference, so in my eyes :ugeek: , they aren't a big time program (currently).
Sure byu vs uw could be an easier choice to make, but dude had offers from damn near anyone.
I understand why he chose it now, just don't really agree with it (football wise)

BYU is big enough to beat the $h&# out of us a few years back. Rumor is the Heaps HS teammate ,Kaison Williams, who will be the top recruit in WA next year, will also go to BYU.

In fact if the Mt. West wants to be a BCS conf., I think they should add Boise St and Fresno. That would give them 5-6 bowls teams every year, and even though they wouldn't be the SEC or even Pac10 an argument could be made that that is a much better conf than the Big East.

Dude, I hate BYU - just saying the MWC was not Mickey Mouse last year. Utah beat ORST and whipped up on Alabama, BYU beat WA.... etc. I hate to have to admit it, but the MWC put the Pac-10 back a few big steps in reputation by beating us up last year. This year needs to be different, and it starts in Autzen against Utah.

So did everyone else and their mammas, interestingly enough, that was UW's best chance at a win, in which the stripes took a chance of overtime away from UW.
