Lowe wanted to stay close to home, limiting his school choices. It was either us, OR state, or UW.

Re: DT Reports Lowe to UW
I watched Lowe play and I thought he was good enough to play WR in our offense. I guess that's why they don't pay me to make these evaluations. I'm still not happy that we didn't land him, but can't blame him that much for picking the wide open depth chart at UW WR position.

I doubt they're cheating.
But, it really is baffling why kids choose a program in the dumps over one that is poised for a solid run of seasons. Some programs are clearly a few years away from being "rebuilt" and a few years is all each recruit has there. I'm just curious about what they're being told.

It's just a question of values. If you care most about winning, we're a better choice than UW. If you want early playing time, they are. That's how all these decisions are made - what schools best suit a recruit's values. That's why people that say a kid made the wrong choice kind of annoy me, because just because you don't share a kid's values doesn't make theirs 'wrong'.wheaton4prez wrote:I doubt they're cheating.

I fn hate the Huskies...at least he didnt go to OS Ewe. Cant blame him, if he wanted to play wr and the Ducks wanted him on D. That being said...have fun playin on a crappy team.

Re: DT Reports Lowe to UW
I can see Oregon not recruiting him as a WR, when they recently recruited a player that was an athlete for one of the skill positions it didn't turn out to well so it's good they were up front with him and didn't get a commitment from a kid that wasn't 100% into being a Duck. As for the Fuskies cheating they already have a few minor violations and of course they have history on their side as a school that has committed some major violations. There are still a lot of players and a lot of time to fill the needs of the Ducks so hopefully with time the Ducks get what who they need!

No where to go but up? haha I'd rather be where we are now but good look to what I'm sure is a fine young man.monster wrote:"I love ... the direction the program is going in."
Which direction is that, exactly?

Personally, I would rather get less playing time on a good team than a lot of playing time on a terrible team. I think a lot of these 17 year old kids don't really understand what it's like to be a "team player". The worst case scenario for guys like this is getting little to no playing time on a losing team. Oh well, what can you do?

I said this about 3 months ago, but this reminded me so much of Jordan Polk.
Losing in state talent is never good. But better than him going to OSU.

Re: DT Reports Lowe to UW
After talking to a position coach at Lincoln High School, he said they were able to put a 165 db on him that jammed him all game long for no catches. He said from his personal opinion that he would make a much better db than wr. In fact, he said Jordan Polk is a way better wr prospect. I think these kids sometimes can't read the writing on the wall. Oregon did the right thing telling him that he's a athlete. If he wants to see the field UW at wr he made the right choice. I don't think he cracks into our two deep.

Really, a kid an hour and a half away from us and we as fans think our staff didn't take enough time to evaluate him properly? I like to get the in-state talent as well, but if our staff makes a call on how to offer this kid, then I'm going to back them up. He wanted to play WR, UW "promised" him that opp. He made his choice based on the options presented. Good luck to him.

Polk got to see the field last year. I know that there's all this talk about building an iron fence around the state but you can't be all thing to all people. Some kids are going to want to go out of state, others want playing time, someone might want a different major, etc. Curtis White is a coup as far as in-state recruits go.UOducksTK1 wrote:I said this about 3 months ago, but this reminded me so much of Jordan Polk.

If playing time was his top priority, then I definitely don't blame him. At Washington, he has a chance to play right away as a freshman (much like Polk last season).BisonDucks wrote:After talking to a position coach at Lincoln High School, he said they were able to put a 165 db on him that jammed him all game long for no catches. If someone says a kid made the wrong choice, doesn't that mean that they disagree with their values?Tray Dub wrote:It's just a question of values. And values are almost always debatable. In the case of early playing time versus chances of playing in bigger bowl games, I think that playing in bigger bowl games trumps. Assuming that the player believes that they can earn a starting position by their junior or senior season and is interested in a professional football career (not all are), the exposure of playing in those bigger games is more valuable than getting early reps on a sub-bowl team. Additionally, a soft depth chart doesn't necessarily guarantee early playing time. Other players will be brought in to bolster the depth chart that will offer competition anyway.
