Re: Whispers.. Dior Mathis
Hey Tony: I could be in left field here, but isn't Duck Territory an ESPN affiliate? I guess my real question is; are you guys, or ESPN, ever going to start evaluating kids and score them with stars such as Scout/Rivals? As of now, ESPN has marched to the tune of a different drummer. We all know they are the 800 gorrilla in the sports world, but it would be easier to see how each firm rates each player and compare if there was a standard in place, such as how we compare Scout's and Rival's scores for each recruit. ESPN's grades are currently not as widely recognized by most of us. This is evidenced by almost all of us referrring to recruits as a 3*'s or 4*'s... You will rarely hear any of us refer to a recruit as a 78. I suppose, if you are in fact ESPN based, you might just take over the world and Rivals and Scout will have to make the change to point values in lieu of stars so we will actually start talking numbers insted of stars. Just curious I suppose.tonyd wrote:That what he told us as well...

That's a very good question.
Taking it a step further, if the status quo remains, is there a scale of sorts we could use that says how a score could translate to stars?
That would be helpful to some extent.

Yes, DT is an ESPN affiliate. As for the rankings, Yes, in fact it's going to be implemented as soon as the first ESPN 150 is released.
ESPN is just started to get into recruiting. Watch though, a year or two and they will take over. They've already started to cut limbs off the other services getting rights to many camps and combines as well as an AA game. In a couple years it'll be much worse for them. Rivals.com has already taken a -40% hit in total page views in the last three months alone.
Problem is the people rating for rivals and scout don't really know sh** to be honest. Have you seen Chris Fetter's Top NW rankings? They're absolutely horrible. I don't claim to be any kind of expert although I'm being mentored but I'll put my recently released Top 25 NW prospects against his anyday of the week and almost every coaching staff in the know would agree with me (Ok I cheated, one already told me mine's better
)
For an example of the countless resources I have at ESPN per when I was with Rivals is a database of just about every prospect in the country. An excel sheet of over 20,000 prospects. Whereas Scout and Rivals you have to fight the national analysts for numbers and such and even some guys are "Off Limits". No limits at ESPN. Plus not all prospects have heard of Scout and Rivals so when you call them from ESPN, they get a lot more excited.

lmao at rivals falling off. You are going to need inside sources before you outgrow DSA. As if now you don't have any.tonyd wrote:Yes, DT is an ESPN affiliate. As for the rankings, Yes, in fact it's going to be implemented as soon as the first ESPN 150 is released.

Its going to someone who has visited, has an offer, and wants to be a duck. So that makes a small enough group that Im sure anyone could guess and figure it out.

Re: Whispers.. Dior Mathis
Okkkkk.... 2 things since I was one that started this little thread.
First off can we get back to the subject of Dior Mathis. That is why created the thread. I am not in the know and never will be. I was wanting to find out peoples thoughts about him and have the thread about us being in the lead for him.
Second off... I probably speak for a lot of people here. I do not care who.. or where the source is coming from. This is recruiting and nothing is set in stone. A lot of it is speculative at best. They change minds frequently and sometimes it turns out not in our favor and take all the information in knowing until signing day it does not mean a whole lot. I do enjoy reading things about the recruits. I do not know Tony.. or the ones who run this site but I appreciate all of them.. for all their work.. all the information they have.. all the information they share.. even if it turns out it changes.

Don't doubt Tony he is very good at what he does, and knows more things about recruiting and sports then anyone one here. I think we are very lucky to get his knowledge on this site considering he runs Duck Territory which is a very good site as well.
