91 Power Forwards

Post by Zyme »

Top 5 Power Forwards:

Shawn Kemp B C C B C+ B

Big man many were crying out for over the past couple of years. The GMs wept when made his grades and the fans of Kentucky wept when he buckled under the bright lights of Rupp Arena. A year of intense work later and he came back with a vengeance. Rarely had the training staff seen such fire when he made his rehab, taking the floor nearly three months earlier than one expects for an ACL tear. While he has lost several steps during his rehab, he has compensated with immense strength. Despite losing much of his famed agility and hops, he still has a large bag of tricks to work from, with a solid free throw stroke for a big man. Consensus is stater day one, and depending on how long his surgically repaired knee hold out, he could really waves.

Larry Johnson B C+ C- C- B+ B

When LJ transferred to UNLV it was big, when he was linked up with Stacey Augmon and Greg Anthony something special was formed. The trio sliced through conference play, ending with a huge comeback against Duke to ride off to the pros as national champions. Classic Cornerman, LJ knows where the basket is and how to get the ball in there. When playing off ball, he is a nightmare on the weak side rebound. Despite his offensive prominence, he gets lazy on offense. The entirety of his strategy is to fail to cut off the drive, then try to poke away the ball from behind as his man blows by to the hoop and leave his partner in the post out to dry and guarding 2 players.

Dale Davis C+ D+ D- B- B- A

Was far and away the best player on a bad Clemson squad. They may have flared out and not even made the NIT, but Davis was not at fault. The team never had any scoring options to work with, and Davis' coach gave up on forcing him the ball long ago. When it does go down low, he struggles to finish at times and leaves a fair number of points at the free throw line. He is powerful rebounder and defender. Few dared to enter the paint against, him, leading to leading the SEC in defensive points in the paint. Powerful frame, he has plenty of room to build on, DD is ready to lock the paint down for decades to come.

Pete Chilcutt C+ B D+ C C+ A

This sharp-shooting big man led the Tar-Heels to the final four. He drove opponents mad with his outside prowess. He lived in the high post, living to fade away and slowly draw his opponent to the 3pt line, where he could triple threat. Centers simply did not have the speed to keep up with him and small forwards were too short to guard him. Scouts love his lithe frame and he move very well. Simply put, the kid puts his effort into his shooting and never really focused on the defensive side of the ball.

Chris Gatling B- C- D- C+ C+ A

Member of the USA national basketball team, he is very agile for a big man. He can jump out of a gym and his defense in the post is very advanced (though Dik makes everyone look weak). Very sneaky defender, he has very quick hands when defending down low. Scouts are worried that he may have to really put on weight if he hopes to put up with the rigors of NBA level hoops. If he commits to the weight room to build on his already solid strength, he could have a very solid career.

Other Power Forward Prospects:

Doug Smith B- C C- C+ C+ B

Very well developed inside game and easily one of the most mature player in the draft whom Missouri is already whispering of retiring his number. He has an NBA body day one. Rumor is he spent more time partying in the frat hoses than he did in the weight room.

Mark Randall C D+ D+ B C A

Outside of Dik, probably the most polished post defender in the class. Scouts rave about this kid, but worry his starting point in parts of his game may present challenges.

Shaun Vandiver C+ F+ D C- C+ A

Tank of a kid. He may not move particularally on defense, but my goodness he is strong. He loves to beast his matchup inside.

Chad Gallagher C+ C D+ C+ C B

High post specialist. Love the triple threat and getting the the opponent to bite then finish at the rim.

Kevin Brooks C+ C D C C+ A

Loves to space the floor from the free-throw extended. Excellent positioning on the rebounding, few escape his box-outs.

Have we had any good PF come in yet? Someday I'll have a pick and need to pay more attention to the drafts.

You need a first round pick first.
