Draft Watch 92

Post by Zyme »

Another year another rumor mill here at Draft Watch.

Last year, big names like Sprewell came out early and got rewarded with big contracts and early selections in the draft. Despite, we still have many big names that stuck it out and will continue into their senior year. Players like Christian Laettner at Duke, Alonzo Mourning at Georgetown, LaPhonso Ellis at Notre Dame and others as well.

With trouble brewing abroad in the Balkans and rumors of trouble in the Hierarchy of the Soviet Union present a great deal of intrigue both domestic and abroad.

Big international news dominates the headlines today. Reports out of the Soviet Union has, for the first time, not violently put down a break away attempt. The Soviet Socialist Republic of Estonia and her Popular Front have declared domestic claim to all their natural resources, and announced that they will have independent elections with democratically chosen communist candidates with or without approval for the candidates from Moscow. Tiit Sokk, when asked for comment, responded: "I stand with my brothers and sisters back home and dedicate my season to them. My prayers are with them." Russia normally crushes these movements but there are resounding silence from the USSR.

Duke has been on a tear this year. Seems like their loss to UNLV last season in the final of the tourney has inspired them. While he was good last year, sophomore phenom Grant Hill to Laettner connection has been simply unbeatable this season. Hill seems to shut down the best player on the opposition while Laettner makes big shot after big shot. Laettner looks like the great white hope as his jumpshot from the high post is drawing the Bird comparison every game he plays. Duke is still undefeated, and frankly, if they drop more than half a dozen games all season, draftwatch would be aghast. Give them the #1 seed right now.

Laettner would probably fit in Indiana then!

This is Zo's world we are just living in it. So far in the season as conference play begins, there has been no more dominant player than Alonzo Mourning. He has been, by far the most dominant player in the nation not player in the South. He is leading the Hoyas with 22 and 10 during the preseason schedule.

Michigan has been crazy this year. Never before has such a class come together so completely and so quickly. Jalen Rose holding the paint, Ray Jackson stepping up to cover the best opposing scoring threat, Jimmy King on sniper duty, Webber as the scoring machine and Juwan Howard holding the middle and owning the high post. By game five all freshmen were on the court starting and as we start conference play, look like they have been running around the playground together for years. If you get a chance, stop by Ann Arbor and check out these kids, they are something special. If they can stick together for all four years, this could be dynasty in the making.

Many media sources have been dubbing them the "Fab Five"
