Jason Richardson C+ B- C C+ C A
The scouting report on Richardson was a consensus: If you need a scoring option look no further. The partner on the wing for the final four squad of Michigan State, Richardson was the outside compliment to Randolph's bruising inside game. While Richardson has the game to crash inside on the drive, he is mostly deadly from behind the arc and is probably the most complete shooter of the class. On defense he enough skill and speed to keep up with his man with a good foundation to build upon. Loaded with potential, full stop.
Joe Johnson C C+ C+ C+ D+ A
Compared to the other top guards that were invited to the combine, Johnson looked one of the most balanced of the lot. He has more than enough to keep up with any man he faces on defense with a solid nose for picking out teammates for wide open shots. If Joe can build just a little on his defense and shooting there is no doubt that he will be an everyday contributor on the next level. Nobody in this class has more potential.
Joseph Forte C C+ C- C+ D- B
One of real weapons on the national runner up North Carolina Tarheels. While he has a very flat shot, once it backs up beyond the arc it is as deadly as they come. Really good jazz-step that offbalanced some of the best players at the combine. His defense is really where he shines, he is on his man like glue. He is safe, but extremely relentless in keeping his man in front of him and making him work for everything. A little on the skinny side but has prototypical size and a very lithe body that the scouts were very pleased to see. His biggest weakness is he can rebound, provided he's the only one fighting for it.
Jeryl Sasser B C- C- C D B
Sasser, the Stud out of SMU, has graced us with his presence. He is a slasher par excellence and has the pace and and finishing to score against nearly anyone in the league. Scouts love how agressively he took the ball into the paint at will and could get things done at the tin. The biggest issue they saw was he rarely did anything else, and moreover were concerned that when he got fouled he struggled to convert his free chances. Solid, but not exceptional potential, he should find a place in the rotation but unless he take significant strides he may be your classic 6th man never starter.
Brandon Armstrong C+ C- C- C+ D+ A
One of the class acts of the Mid-Major Pepperdine. He walked away with all conference 1st team and conference player of the year. He is a solid slasher who soars above the rim. He is quick as they come and pesky on the defensive end. Scouts love his upside and if he can work on his jumper release he could be a nice little peace. Scout do worry that given his division he played in he may struggle to adjust to the speed of the NBA game.
Other Shooting Guard Prospects
Trenton Hassell C C C+ B C A
Outstanding defender from a small conference. Poor finishing skills. Top shelf potential
Rodney White C+ C+ C- C C A
Great weapons loadout but quite careless with the ball in his hands. Outstanding strength.
Bobby Simmons C+ C+ C- C C+ A
Great mid range shooter out of the big east. Outstanding footwork on the backboard. An "A" potential, but a low "A".
Sean Lampley B- C- C C C A
Wing out of Cal who should start paying rent he spends so much time above the rim. His range stops at the free throw line. Not a turnover risk.
Terence Morris C- C C- C+ C C
Defensive wing out of Maryland. Solid footwork on the defensive glass.
