Trying to interpret quotes like this one has no point. Sure it makes sense the way you spun it, but to Clemson and Ohio State fans it looks a lot different. For Clemson they're probably thinking "well he loved his visit and now he is going to commit." Ohio State can be thinking the same thing is us. Really the only time interpreting quotes works is when you know the person, which I doubt anybody really does.

It's really weird to be interviewed by the media when you are still in high school, most don't really know what to say. Recruits answers are so inconsistent because their answers differ depending on who is asking them. If Jim Tressel (hypothetically) asks Boyd who is his favorite in front of the press, he will either say tOSU or all the schools are even, just because it would be awkward to say otherwise.

In the end Boyd will choose a school that he and his parents agree on, regardless of what he has said to biased reporters, and I believe it will be between Ohio State and Oregon. Clemson is nice, but it has been underachieving big time while Oregon and Ohio State are looking pretty promising in the near future.

I am going to have to disagree with you on this one man. Here is the deal, you are correct that we will never no his true intentions unless we hear them from his mouth or we have reason to believe we know him personally enough to decipher what he is hinting at. However, no one on here has attempted to decipher these quotes on there own. We have put these quotes in context with other quotes and then attempted to collaborate them. Let me give you an example:

First we hear in an interview that Boyd says:
"I'm leaning pretty good to Oregon right now. I liked it there a lot and I think it's a great fit for me. I like the coaches, I like the offense, I liked the area and I like the opportunity to come in and play early."
Then:
"I'm looking forward to visiting Clemson and I know I'll have a good time there. My plan is to take this visit, think things over a little and then have some kind of announcement shortly after. I pretty much know what I'm going to do but I'll have something at the school where I'll pick a hat and I should be able to do that shortly after this visit."
When you match that up with this:
"At first I didn't know much about Clemson. I am glad I made the trip. Now when I make my decision I won't regret anything. It was a good visit for real."
You can see through these quotes that he was leaning towards Oregon, but didn't want to make a decision without exploring all of his options. He pretty much Knew what school he was going to pick, and now that he has seen Clemson he is ready to make his decision. In My opinion he would not be making his decision quickly if he was seriously considering Clemson. He already felt as though his mind was made up so if the Clemson visit was enough to sway him I think he would sit on it a bit and make sure that he compared his options closely. However if he wasn't happy with the Clemson visit it wouldn't take long to make a decision he already had his mind set on.

^Good breakdown, except you're leaving out the part where he says all the schools are equal and his dad says Clemson made a lot of progress with the playing time pitch

I agree with you for the same reasons. I hope he pulls the trigger soon so we can get the speculation behind us. Hopefully we hear something early this week.

I should add just to clarify that I agree with some of you that I am actually less confident than before however if I here that he is going to announce shortly I have no worries. My point in breaking down those quotes was to explain that some useful information could be gleaned from them (the part about how long it takes him to announce being an indicator of which school he is likely to pick) not that I knew which school he would be choosing. I am worried more because of the "They're all even" quote however this could be a tactic to gain publicity for the announcement!

I don't think we have anything to worry about regarding the supposed quote from his dad and the "all three are even" quote. In the short time I've been following the Boyd recruitment, I've noticed how cordial the Boyd family is about all of the schools that he is considereing/visited. They haven't burned any bridges or said anything bad about any of them. Basicaly they seem to be super nice people that appreciate the hard work these schools and staff have put into recruiting Tahj. I've noticed similar sentiment in pretty much all quotes from them so to me these quotes are just their way of being nice and holding their cards close. IMHO, Boyd will pick Oregon.

I don't see how this should really change peoples confidence. He said that this solidified his previous decision. This allowed him to make his original choice without regret. That pretty much rules out Clemson, since he would have been pretty crazy to want to commit to them before he visited them. Plus he only rated the visit at an 8.5, so it didn't blow him away. Had he inteded on going to clemson, this visit would have to have been a 10 for him to be happy about his original choice. I think we can safely rule out Clemson.

So that pretty much means it is between us and Ohio State. What have we heard regarding the two schools? He has either said that the schools are even or that Oregon is in the lead. I can't remember hearing that Ohio State was in the lead ever.

The odds have to look pretty good for us right now. He could still end up at Ohio State but it doesn't look that way. We'll see what happens.

this is almost torture, its one of those things we love so much yet we are still so helpless. In the end all we can do is sit, watch, and wait for the kids we want so bad to commit to the school we love so much.
Then half of the time they go to a school that some a-hole made a movie about (rudy) OR some coach from the ice age ranted off something that became a famous quote!! Oh well it does appear at the very least we are getting a lot more interest from big recruits witch does make this hole surf the board for any info i can find thing alot funner..I have to admit i am hooked on duck recruiting now almost as much as the actual duck football...I need help i should have been in bed 2 hours ago..

It's all about his Dad. He's basically deciding where Tajh goes. He likes Oregon and CK, but who knows what Clemson told him or guaranteed him. We lost way to many recruits because for whatever reason the parents basically decided where their son is going to play. If it where up to Tajh he would have been a Duck along time ago.

I decided i hate parents over actively involved in recuriting. Its the kids decision. And it seems parents always want the son to go someplace else other than oregon, usually for distance.

This is why I said in another thread that I think recruiting the east coast is a waste of time at this point, the only program that can really sell parents out east right now is USC... we just aren't there yet. As of right now, we are battling the parents on just about every big time recruit out east that has lots of offers... cuz parents are thinking "Chip Kelly and his offense are nice everything, but there's 6 other schools that are only within driving distance from home that have offered you..." The recruits love us after their visit but the parents either A) don't ever visit Oregon or B) think it's too far away and want them to stay closer to home

When USC goes to the east coast they say "Half of our players go to the NFL, and they are semi-celebrities while they live in LA" and parents go "Okay buddy, have fun in LA, don't forget to write!"

Does landing Grant change your opinion of East Coast recruiting? If we land Boyd, will that change your opinion?

There will always be exceptions. But there have been countless cases where we just get turned down because distance and other factors. Until we become a national recognized program big time like SC, we will never have consistent recruiting east coast. I think we should stop at Texas/Kansas. And slowly try to establish some ties. Also maybe it was just St Louis, but whenever i walked around there with my oregon gear ppl would either be like tight! or they would be like man u guys have a dirty program. I dont know why the perception of us was so bad there, but that could be a factor also. If we get a coach with eastern recruiting ties that will certainly help.

It's big if a player from the east coast visits here. It's even bigger if the parents also visit! That's why we got Grant IMO. Sure Grant loved the ducks, but if his parents never got to see Oregon themselves, maybe they would have said no and forced him to stay in Florida (or close to Florida).

Oregon needs to start getting parents, especially for east coast recruits, to visit the school also. Very Important. Very.

Totally agree....If Boyd's parents would have gone to Oregon as they did to tOSU and Clemson, he'd already be a Duck
