Tyson Coleman isn’t playing much this season despite a tremendous sophomore year. He has a sickness, which has limited his play. Lake Oswego won 34-0 over Putnam..
What sickness does he have, mono ?

I can't imagine we'd a recruit a guy who is truly sick/diseased...so no worries from me! I'm sure its something significant enough to keep him out of HS FB but not much more.

He has mono from what I've heard. He'll be fine, I'm pretty sure he's still been playing defense.sickaduck wrote:No kidding, that wording scared me too. And it sounds like he'll be back to full health soon.

One of Oregon's best defensive players ever had a stellar season after recovering from Mono while on the squad... Eric Castle or Chad Cota, IIRC?
It's not normally a chronic infection. The reason for extreme caution while it is running it's course is that the illness causes swelling of the spleen. Take a hit there, and it could actually be life threatening.

Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
Mono can be spread through contact with saliva, mucus from the nose and throat, and sometimes tears. Because the virus can be spread through kissing, it has earned the nickname the "kissing disease." If you have mono, you can avoid passing the virus to others by not kissing anyone and by not sharing things like glasses, eating utensils, or toothbrushes.
As soon as you get over mono, your symptoms will go away for good, but you will always carry the virus that caused it.
The most common symptoms of mono are a high fever, a severe sore throat, swollen glands and tonsils, and weakness and fatigue. Symptoms usually start 4 to 6 weeks after you are exposed to the virus.
Mono can cause the spleen to swell. Severe pain in the upper left part of your belly may mean that your spleen has burst. This is an emergency.
