Love Oregon. Left for 3 years in the 90s to work on race cars. Moved 9 years ago to tw for wife’s work. Given a choice we’d move back in a second. Lots of other states I’ve been to don’t hold a candle to Oregon. Jmo.

I really appreciate the point your are making here. Too many people use location as an excuse. Some of those places are hell holes. Athens and State College are at least cool college towns. If you win, have a great coach, and get to major bowls, recruiting improves. Our problem was we should have exploded in recruiting, and did sort of, right up to when Chip left, but we hired Helfich instead. We squandered the resume.GrandpaDuck wrote:Location of Top 10 in recruiting as of today on 247.

From this interview, sounds like Oregon really had no chance with Hufanga and has been out of it for some time.

Seems like a fairly well thought out kid and having the connection with two other kids from Oregon, one being family, didn’t hurt. Good luck to him.greenyellow wrote:From this interview, sounds like Oregon really had no chance with Hufanga and has been out of it for some time.

It doesn't have a ton to do with 'bright lights of the big city' really. Braden Lenzy is going to North Bend, Indiana. Ndamukong Suh went to Lincoln, Nebraska. Oregon people have a belief that there's more going on in other places, and that it's an accomplishment to go elsewhere. Doesn't have to be California or what-have-you.duckfan22 wrote:sometimes the bright lights of the big city overides whatever the UofO has to offer.

FWIW, he got beat like a drum by Waddle all morning. I hope we still have a shot with Waddle.

I feel that we just need to start winning and to have an identity again. Those would help change the mentality of top in-state kids and recruits to wanting to represent their home state and play for Oregon again.

I agree, waddle looked amazing against any defender. Really hope we still have a chance with him and that he wasn't only interested in us before because of slick willie.

You're definitely making it sound way worse than it is. I lived exactly halfway between UCLA and USC for 3-years (Downtown Culver City) and visited both regularly. UCLA is in Westwood- not Brentwood.mijaha wrote:Bright lights of the City?? SC is close to downtown LA, but the area around SC is a war zone. Just ask DAT's mom why she wanted her son to get away from that area.
Getting to Hollywood is a hoof. And dont get me started with the traffic on the 110 Freeway. Bumper to bumper 24/7. I cant for the life of me understand anyone wanting to go to that school. UCLA, well thats another matter. Beautiful campus and Brentwood. Playing at the Rose Bowl and not the rotting Coliseum, no question i'd go to UCLA. The one thing SC has are the alumni, you're set when you graduate. Oregon has Nike, but really how many opportunities are there? Oregon has one of the best campuses, and surrounding areas, on the west coast. Right there with Stanford.

I work in Brentwood, so its what i see daily. I dont think i'm overstating the area surrounding SC.

USC is always going to be extremely tough to beat for a polynesian kid (especially from the west coast)
