Webb confirms he's solid with Oregon
I was a little concerned once he started getting all the recent offers.

However, after this weekend's official visit to Oregon, Webb is done with the recruiting process.
He is not only solid to Oregon, but also believes Eugene is a perfect fit, listing the reasons in a written response Monday morning.
"They really have everything I'm looking for - close to home, roster I can compete early, the best facilities, SEC strength and conditioning, pro-style offense with wrinkles, football school, sports-first campus, great academic support and (I) really like the coaches."

Interesting that he calls Oregon's offense a "pro-style offense with wrinkles" since it makes me believe that they're further transitioning away from the spread. Makes me think they'll be trying to run something more similar to Alabama's offense.

I'm not worried. Wonder how much Pistol we see with Mastro now here. Alabama has
elements of the spread. QB will run. But whatever they do and we win then I'm ok

Spread teams have won the last how many championships (yes, Alabama is spread)? I feel like it's a bad move to transition to a pro style offense.

Pretty sure we’ll see a pistol/spread hybrid with lots of wrinkles.

Many, I would say most pro teams now run the "spread".greenyellow wrote:Interesting that he calls Oregon's offense a "pro-style offense with wrinkles" since it makes me believe that they're further transitioning away from the spread. I think we're going away from the spread option.

I LOVE the spread, but I'd rather run a pro-style offense than a spread without the option. A spread with no option is like pro-style with no play-action. Why even bother?pro-style offense with wrinkles
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Huh? The NFL, Alabama, etc. disagree.pezsez1 wrote:I LOVE the spread, but I'd rather run a pro-style offense than a spread without the option. A spread with no option is like pro-style with no play-action. Why even bother?pro-style offense with wrinkles

We're not going to an archaic 1996 NFL offense
Probably similar to what Bama has moved to with a Spread & Pro Style hybrid
Really wish Helf hadn't messed up the Tua thing lol

Re: Webb confirms he's solid with Oregon
I should clarify. I'm happy with a pro-style offense that borrows from the spread. I do not want a repeat of last year, when all we did was spread guys out for no real apparent reason and virtually no options or play-action.Huh? The NFL, Alabama, etc. disagree.

This is the sort of news that engenders a lot of confidence in the recruiting ability of the coaching staff.
I'm glad that you continue to mention this because I think that a lot of Oregon fans - myself included - were lying to ourselves a bit about how bad the playcalling was, and now that Taggart is gone there is no real reason to continue denying that it was quite awful and indicated that Taggart didn't properly understand how a spread offense was meant to function. I have no idea if the current offensive coaches have that sort of understanding either - the Las Vegas Bowl was not great but I don't imagine Arroyo and Cristobal were really mentally there either - but like you I know for sure that the most important thing to see next year is the sense of purpose and comprehension to the play calling that was a constant under Chip Kelly and flickered just enough under Helfrich to sustain hope despite the litany of other warning signs.I should clarify. Re: Webb confirms he's solid with Oregon
What we ran last year was very different in execution from the spread Taggart ran at USF. Obviously, the running quarterback, Flowers, had most everything to do with that, but the WR position was also used much differently. Taggart tried to do a power spread to utilize Royce Freeman. It wasn't aesthetically pleasing, but we did score points in a lot of games with Herbert. Taggart focused too much on Royce. Was too simple. Passing tree routes were one dimensional.Handsome Dan wrote:This is the sort of news that engenders a lot of confidence in the recruiting ability of the coaching staff.

If Shough ends up being our starting quarterback of the future, the qb isn't going to run much. I think the option is probably going to be lost and used just as a play-action.
