I'm trying to figure out what Jhop has to do with anything. It isn't his fault if recruits change their minds as the situation changes. You just have to assume that they are all waiting to hear from USC and only committed to Oregon because they weren't a priority for the Trojans early in the cycle. Kind of like how Crocker was with OSU, while waiting for the ducks. THat's why I don't pay Jhop - he really doesn't know the ebbs and flows of USC's class and what spots will open up. If one were going to spend money, it would be better spent on USC insiders.
Oregon is going to lose the vast majority of those head-to-head recruiting battles with USC, so they should plan their recruiting strategy accordingly, and position themselves to get the guys that the Trojans missed in all of their star-chasing. It seems to me that's how Chip did it, and it worked pretty well.
This coaching staff are not a known quantity yet, and until they show they have the chops to compete in the conference, they are going to have a more difficult time closing. Altman gets recruits now because everyone knows he is one of the best coaches around. If Mullens really did hire Cristobal and company just to save a recruiting class, then the joke is on him (and us). Oregon has enough assets that if the word gets out that we have good coaches, the recruits will come. We're not there yet.

Pretty sure he hired Cristobal because there were no other good options available.Phalanx wrote:If Mullens really did hire Cristobal and company just to save a recruiting class, then the joke is on him (and us). I don't think it happens, but if it does, we are probably headed to a land worse than Helfrich-Ville.Duckenstein wrote:Prepare yourself because it sounds like there is a very good chance that happens.GrantDuck wrote:WTF....there'd be no excuses for this staff if that happens...not to mention Jhop.Duckenstein wrote:Oregon is not getting Ojomo or Ossai.GoDucksTroll wrote:At the point I'll settle for one of Williams, Ezeike, or Harrison to go with JJ Tucker.
Either Sewell or one of the defensive linemen, Ojomo (committing tonight) or Ossai.
Would love to hang on to Winston and Johnson. If we don't get either one it will be a disaster.
TBH, things are not looking good and Jhop is hinting that Williams, Sewell, Winston and Ezeike all go to USC tomorrow

That I don't believe, whatsoever. There's at least 5 coaches out there that would be highly successful at Oregon and would come.StevensTechU wrote:Pretty sure he hired Cristobal because there were no other good options available.Phalanx wrote:If Mullens really did hire Cristobal and company just to save a recruiting class, then the joke is on him (and us). He might have FELT there were no other good options or looked in the wrong places....

Didn't under Chip. Got Armstead, DAT, and Colt H2H against them. Sure we will lose most for LA guys, but we shouldn't be losing Oregon kids to them like Hafunga and guys like Williams for whom Oregon was a dream school for a long time. Guys like Sewell from Utah who almost committed early...Phalanx wrote:I'm trying to figure out what Jhop has to do with anything. JHOP is getting most his info. directly from the coaches. Would I like to see him get a wider perspective and not just bow the knee? Sure. But he's getting stuff from the source, or at least as close to it as I've seen on a lot of these sites. If we strike out huge tomorrow, it will be a no confidence vote for the coaches because they are feeding Jhop. If they can't gauge where commits stand that badly, it's not a good look.GrantDuck wrote:WTF....there'd be no excuses for this staff if that happens...not to mention Jhop.Duckenstein wrote:Oregon is not getting Ojomo or Ossai.GoDucksTroll wrote:At the point I'll settle for one of Williams, Ezeike, or Harrison to go with JJ Tucker.

If the coaches thought they were in great shape and the big whiff happens, that is a very bad sign

I literally don't buy that at all. What could they possibly stand to gain by leaking stuff to some dude's website?Groundswell wrote:

Agreed. I don't think Jhops wrong info has anything to do with the coaches.Hoagduck wrote:I literally don't buy that at all. What could they possibly stand to gain by leaking stuff to some dude's website?Groundswell wrote:

Re: Can’t find the other post. Who do ducks finish with?
The Armstead family didn't like USC any longer after the treatment of Eric's brother. Colt was an Oregon kid. DAT was a legit win though. We weren't winning all the battles with USC, we only one a few and most of them had some pretty understandable reasons why we won them.GrantDuck wrote:

Probably better if I don't post that name
It's likely one coach and I'm sure they craft a narrative they want out there
Willie's staff fed the FSU mods FYI

Most coaching staffs feed the "insiders". It's part of their job to appease fans.

It's absolutely 100% coming from the staff...at least most of it. Some of it's good info. some of it's crafted to control the message. Some of it's crafted to put pressure on recruits. But it's definitely coming from the staff.Phalanx wrote:Agreed. I don't think Jhops wrong info has anything to do with the coaches.Hoagduck wrote:I literally don't buy that at all.
