OregonLive's inside look at Cristobal's recruiting changes
OregonLive has a nice story about how Cristobal intends to change the way the staff recruits in the future, namely by allocating 4 coaches to each player so they're not as affected by coaching changes. Also discusses that the 3 latest hires (Mastro, Dennison, and Williams) mainly focused on 2019, which means that the 2018 class was worked on by only 7-8 guys the last couple months (likely a big cause for the falloff at the end.)

Interesting read. Glad to hear he wants to focus on backgrounds and character before offering. I don't think Slick is nearly as concerned with that component, which makes him perfect for the Criminoles.
And modeling your recruiting strategy after Bama can't be a bad thing.
I'd be lying if I said I'm not bummed about a few kids (especially the Oregon kids that went elsewhere), but I'm willing to give the staff a mulligan and we'll see how the strategy works for '19 class.

I think Mario has the right idea, but can he execute? That's the question
Recruiting is more important than it's ever been. Gotta recruit top classes to stay competitive

Cristobal needs to show he can do more than speak in platitudes and instead translate those into actionable items that are forward-looking. You should absolutely learn lessons from your past, but you shouldn't* fixate on them to the extent that you're not looking forward and evolving. Something as simple as "stick 4 guys to recruit" is a band-aid on what went wrong in this cycle, but it's going to create capacity constraints that will result in breaks in other ways.

One thing I've noticed the staff doing is making stops to see coaches, even if they didn't have a player to visit at the school. It's a smart move that will hopefully help build a foundation of relationships.StevensTechU wrote:Cristobal needs to show he can do more than speak in platitudes and instead translate those into actionable items that are forward-looking. I certainly don't doubt the staff is willing to put in the necessary effort on the recruiting trail. I was exhausted just following their twitter feeds showing all the places they hit in the last few weeks.

Yea, I'm not concerned with effort whatsoever. I'm concerned with cognitive ability. I'm concerned that Urban Meyer and Chris Peterson are playing chess, and Mario Cristobal is playing checkers.

I agree and I don't understand what Mario has done to earn so much trust from so many fans.StevensTechU wrote:Yea, I'm not concerned with effort whatsoever. I'm concerned with cognitive ability. And before Damascus duck swoops in, No I am not saying Mario has proven he can't do the job, I'm saying he has yet to prove he can.

Well likewise we could have won the Vegas Bowl and kept Williams, Harrison and Ezeike and he still wouldn't have proven he can do the job.Duckenstein wrote:I agree and I don't understand what Mario has done to earn so much trust from so many fans.StevensTechU wrote:Yea, I'm not concerned with effort whatsoever. They really dropped the ball and miscalculated the importance and impact of that lv bowl on recruiting. To be fair, alot of people did, me included. Didnt williams even pay his own way to go to watch us play in person at the lv bowl while also visiting relatives there? But next season will be a much better indicator of his ability.Duck07 wrote:Well likewise we could have won the Vegas Bowl and kept Williams, Harrison and Ezeike and he still wouldn't have proven he can do the job.Duckenstein wrote:I agree and I don't understand what Mario has done to earn so much trust from so many fans.StevensTechU wrote:Yea, I'm not concerned with effort whatsoever.
