Williams had a 2.2 GPA. If I am not mistaken, that GPA would require a 1400 SAT score to qualify. Usually, 2.2 GPA students don't ace the SATs, although it has been known to happen. Just looking at the numbers, this looks like he is a long shot to qualify. Maybe this is why Cal and USC have already backed off him.

I have no doubt that is why a lot of schools backed off.

Re: D.WIlliams update
As a 2.3 GPA student back in the days of 1400 being a "perfect" core, I can honestly say it is possible... I scored an 1100, without breaking a sweat.
I am not saying Dontae can pull this off. I am simply stating that there is such a thing as a capable student wh, for whatever reason, fails to get the grades he is capable of. (In my case, it was an extreme aversion to homework. When it was test time, my fellow students hated my guts.)
That still is likely the reason a lot of schools are gunshy.
Even if he is capable of 'making the grade', there is no guarantee he will perform any better in the classroom at college than has been shown in High School.

The SAT score used by the NCAA is for Critical Reading and Math, so a 2.2 core GPA correlates with about a 940 on the SAT score.

A perfect score on the SAT is not 1600 anymore; it's 2400 since they added an essay section to it. I would think a score of 1300 would be easier to achieve since there's an extra 800 points to gain from on the test.

Re: D.WIlliams update
The NCAA ignores the writing section which is a third of the test. Thus, the max is still 1600 even though for most HS students it's 1600.greenyellow wrote:A perfect score on the SAT is not 1600 anymore; it's 2400 since they added an essay section to it. Re: D.WIlliams update
How many of us ever heard of a person who had a perfect score on the SATs (Let alone know one...), even at the 1600 level?
Come on, now. Let's see a show of hands!

Actually my brother had TWO friends back in 1974 who did. One went on to Stanford and the other to CalTech, two smart dudes!

It has to do with post count. More posts = more "prestigious" user title.joepat wrote:not smart enough to know where that subheading "high school dropout" came from. i didn't stick it there.
