Ya think this will help recruiting?

Post by dthomas=ddixon »

Heck yes it will! A double OT win on national TV with the heart & guts that our team showed? And on top of it clinching at least a share of the pac10 title? Win against the beevs & it's a Rose Bowl. Then just win against a vastly overrated tOSU & we're gonna be pulling in top flight recruits.

Probably won't have as big of an impact as most fans tend to think. Bellotti has said that one of his most frustrating recruiting classes followed the best season in Oregon football history (Fiesta Bowl victory, finishing #2 in the country) so any correlation is questionable at best. Personally, I think the Oregon recruiting class will look very similar regardless of whether or not the Ducks make or win the Rose Bowl. As silly as it seems, the weather for the Civil War will probably have more of an impact on recruits than the outcome of the game.

One successful season will have little impact on recruiting but a couple of Rose Bowl or BCS Bowls in a row will correlate into picking up some good recruits.

Win the civil war, and yes recruiting will improve noticeably.

Having back-to-back 10 win seasons and a possible BCS game will really get the attention of recruits. It won't be much of an impact this season but next season should really be looking good since the coaches have said that the previous season has much more pull with this year's high school juniors, who are just starting their recruiting process.

I disagree. The ducks were still somewhat of an unknown then. Their recruiting has imrpvoed since then even with not so great seasons. Get to the rose bowl, and I bet recruits will take notice.

Winning the CW and going to the Rose Bowl would help, for sure!

However, there are many moments of the season that are just as important for recruiting. Our win over USC was huge, given the GameDay atmosphere in Eugene, the incredible spirit of the sold-out crowd and the shock of knocking off the king.

Our win over Cal was equally impressive and was also seen by many people.

This season has already paid dividends in recruiting. What I'm trying to say is that a special season like this is filled with great recruiting moments. We could lose the CW and lose the Holiday Bowl, and we'll still have a great recruiting class thanks to the success we've had.

That said... CRUSH OSU!

GO DUCKS!!

This season has provided many great moments for recruiting. With the Gameday appearance against USC, all of the nationally televised games, the media attention, the handling of the Blount situation, last nights game which was a nationally televised appearance at a hostile road environment with the Gameday atmosphere with a Rose Bowl on the line for both teams and the composure of the team to come back an win. It will help with next years recruiting and if Oregon continues to win they will continue to get good media exposure and eventually will move into becoming an elite program!

Of course recruits will be aware if the Ducks make the Rose Bowl, that doesn't mean it will alter the decision they were ultimately going to make anyway. But hey, at least Trovon Reed was so impressed with the big win over USC that he committed to the Ducks. Err, I mean at least Uko was so impressed with the big win over USC that he now solidly favors the Ducks over the Trojans. Errr, I mean at least Gabe King was so impressed with the destruction of Cal that he now solidly favors the Ducks over Cal. You get the idea. It is like a broken record every season, and even within each season. "If we put on a good show against Cal, it is going to be a recruiting bonanza!" "If we beat USC, recruiting is going to skyrocket!" Now it is "if the Ducks make the Rose Bowl, we will really see recruiting explode!" When that doesn't come to fruition, it will be "the Ducks need to win the Rose Bowl, then every 5-star recruit in the country will be tripping over themselves to come here!" Then comes "wow, what are these recruits thinking??? I hope they enjoy getting beat by the Ducks the next 4 years!"

Each recruit that has committed to the Ducks since the big win over USC solidly favored the Ducks before that game was ever played, so there hasn't been some seismic shift in the recruiting universe. Make the Rose Bowl or win or lose the Rose Bowl, the Ducks are going to have a good shot at putting together a good recruiting class either way. As history shows, the decision the recruits in this class make isn't going to hinge on the outcome of these games since they just don't care as much about that as fans think they do, or think they should. As greenyellow pointed out, having a great season has more of an impact on future classes than it does the current one.

I agree that it will help more in future classes than now, we might get a few late interests but the class of 2011 is watching. The one huge positive is that we have some for sure kids playing in the all american games which could also help us steal a late blue chip or two if we're lucky. Gotta love all the coverage though.

The # 1 recruiting tool out there for the TOP recruits in the country is WIN and Win consistently AND have a shot at winning the National Championship !
Nice weather doesn't hurt either.

As long as the Ducks are at least the top ten each year the recruits will get better and better. Were were Number 9 last year and if we win out again this year we should end up in the top 5. That should definitely help years down the road as kids in JR high are paying attention.
JUST WIN BABY !

Teams currently in this year's top twelve classes: Notre Dame, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma.

One game, one bowl, one season... Not gonna change a lot. It takes years to up your prestige, not one big year. On top of that, kids look at a lot more than just the past few years when making their decision. Weather and distance from home will almost always hurt us, facilities will always help us. So even if prestige changed overnight, it wouldn't even matter THAT much.

Just be patient about recruiting guys. We're doing fine with the classes we've been bringing in.

Agree Vinny, but as noted, several Pac-10 titles within a short time frame would start some type of shift. If USC doesnt come back and win it next year, their "lock" on recrutis will start to show a little rust. If they fall off 3 straight years their lock will further fail and they will become a lot like the rest of us fighting over recruits. And you're right that the flash in the pan year by Oregon in 01 did not turn the ship around, but I suspect it helped some as evidence by our upswing in the ensuing years. If we are going to move up to the next level of recuiting, we HAVE to start winning the title every few years. Getting the ship fully turned around might just start with a Rose Bowl followed by some very good seasons and another Pac title within a year or two. Otherwise, our recruiting will stay where it is - certainly very good, but not world class.
