Andy Avalos a candidate for Colorado head coach

Post by GoDucksTroll »

Andy Avalos is apparently a candidate for the Buffs job, after Mel Tucker gave them the Willie Taggart last night to go to Michigan State.

Other candidates include Colorado assistant Darrin Chiaverini, former Colorado player and assistant Eric Bieniemy who is the OC for the KC Chiefs and is unlikely to leave the NFL where he will be a head coach soon, USC OC Graham Harrell, and Jim Leavitt.

Sportsline has Andy Avalos as the second likeliest candidate after Chiaverini.

We knew that Avalos was going to get a shot at a HC job eventually, but this would such having him leave after just one year. Hopefully Colorado goes in another direction.

If you got this off of 247Sports then let's provide the context for this

Before they list some potential candidates they say...

"For entertainment purposes only, the experts at Sportsline on Wednesday released odds on who the Buffalos could try and land:"

The list was not provided by the University.

Agree- this is a very misleading post. Also most CU insiders have not ruled out Bienemy either.

Avalos is a bigger contender for a $1M+ DC job than he is a head coaching position. Fortunately, those positions are filled.

Crazy to think that Donte Williams will be making more than Avalos this season. I think we can keep Avalos around if the $1M+ opportunities start coming, but I'd like to see a couple years of success before we commit too much.

Do we know if the Oregon assistants are getting raises? Seems like it would be a good time to go public on extensions / raises

Giving Andy a raise won't keep him from being a HC.

I agree especially a decent P5 HC job but it looks like the price is going up for a good coach in the P5, Oregon needs to keep up..... from past trends with them I think they will.

They’re some of the most expensive in the country, it’s pretty crazy. Our coaches pay is nowhere close.
