If we're going to allow coaches to move from job to job without any resistance than the same should be allowed for players.

Also, I agree the NBA needs to allow players to go straight from HS to the League. The G-League is a step in the right direction, which allows players to get a good financial head start, but it's still not the same as an NBA rookie salary.

Bottom line: Pay the players and the NCAA product elevates. Continue down the same path and I don't know why any high level HS prospect would set foot on a campus.

I think the onus is on the coaches to recruit players that will stick around longer. If that's what a coach values, he should try to identify the traits that lead players to stay and prioritize recruiting them. And if it works for a coach to have a revolving door, so be it.

I really, really don't understand why they don't do the same thing NCAA baseball/MLB already does. Go straight to the draft, go pro if you're selected or want to, and if you don't then you can go to college for 3-4 years.

I also point to college baseball when people say college players get no benefit. If that was the case, every kid who gets drafted would play in the minors. Very many don't, and instead go to universities. Why would reasonable people pass up a paycheck for "receiving nothing." It's very obviously a market rate for all but the absolute top end of recruits.

Even more of the onus on each teams recruiting staff.. Not only are they having to watch tape on high schoolers, they are having to watch the thousand transfer opportunities, and if most progressive, watching word-of-mouth discontents at other schools. Nuts.

I am starting to wonder if it is even worth recruiting high school kids anymore? It typically takes an insane amount of time and money to land a 4* or 5* kid out of high school. They take a little time to develop, then they pull the plug for the NBA after one year or transfer when they don't get right number of minutes or opportunities as an underclassman. Throw in the 1 time penalty free transfer rule and this is only going to get crazier.

There are over 1,200 players in the transfer portal right now, some of them are arguably the best players on their teams (Carr, Bradley, Ellis, and Allen just to name a few). There is an insane amount of PROVEN talent that would take much less time and money to add to your roster. Plus, it seems like kids would be less likely to transfer a second time.

I am just waiting for the first coach to say "eff this high school recruiting crap. I am just going to hit the transfer portal every season and grab 6-8 guys that have proven talent at the college level."

I swear Altman could make that work somehow. He is almost doing it now.

I think what you'd see is schools like Oregon who have a lot of allure to top prospects, going after ONLY top high school talent (5* players and the like) and filling the roster around them with players who played well at the college level already. Doesn't have to be either/or, but could certainly cause a strategy shift. You just won't have the Lok Wurs on the roster anymore, but instead will wait to see them bloom at Old Dominion and wait for them in the transfer portal. I don't think it will affect the Nate Bittles, though.

Did Oregon offer? I'm going to have to give his dad what for next time I see him.

It came down to Oregon and them so Altman did offer. I believe he was basically their top target but Arkansas has a lot of space for transfers this off-season and is a major player for a lot of the same ones the Ducks are after.

That’s a big bummer. He was my top want in the portal.

My bad. Thought I saw we added an offer for him on Verbal Recruits. But my page wasn't loading right and it was just under listed transfers. Not ones we were going after.
