Oregon forces a winner-take-all game after winning 3-2 in the 8th inning.

Ducks can't push a run across in the 7th after getting 2 on with no outs and their season ends in 1-0 loss to Texas.

I’m nowhere close to an expert when it comes to baseball or softball, I am curious, what leads to a team struggling with leaving runners stranded on bases? Is it just inconsistent offense or can it be a mental game where batters feel pressure when they have runners on base?

Man that 4th inning did us in. Two base running errors, a bad fielder's choice decision and that's the game.
Really wanted to see them get that win against White.

I'm no expert either, but I think it has a lot to do with young players. 2019 was terrible. we had 1 pitcher, a few freshmen, some from the soccer team, and anywhere ML could get them. 2020 great preseason 22-2. PAC-12 season cancelled. 2021 was a great preseason(I believe 24-2). Then came the PAC-12 season. Many of the young players had not played at this level. Probably a rough awakening. They likely pressed a lot. Still they finished 14-10 and in 3rd place.OregonFan4Life wrote:I’m nowhere close to an expert when it comes to baseball or softball, I am curious, what leads to a team struggling with leaving runners stranded on bases? Next year will be even more improvement. Pitching: Brooke will be back. Samaria will be gone. She was a help, not like Brooke, and had reached her potential. Makena and Regan will both improve greatly and have a higher potential. A newcomer, Stevie Hanson, is ranked the #3 pitcher by one service. Another, name?, is ranked #8 and is gatorade player of the year in Minnesota. ML. is building a deep pitching staff. I suspect hitting will be a major concern in fall ball and preparing for next year. Some of the highly regarded recruits haven't performed to expectations. Still a lot of potential to work with. As far as ML has brought the program in basically 1 and 1/2 yrs. is remarkable.

I saw a tweet of someone saying essentially 'Even though the Ducks lost to Texas, I think Lombardi gets a national championship before [former Oregon coach] White' and not even an ounce of me felt like that was unrealistic.

Feels like our post season Oregon Softball syndrome.OregonFan4Life wrote:I’m nowhere close to an expert when it comes to baseball or softball, I am curious, what leads to a team struggling with leaving runners stranded on bases? Offense just nowhere to be found during post seasons.
It was especially painful those years where we had great bats.

We didn't have great bats all year. Our 6-8 hitters were all around .200 so at least it wasn't a huge shock that they couldn't come through with that big hit that was needed.
It still rubs me the wrong way that White just took half the roster with him to Texas though. Would have been really nice to take them out last night

Technically we did take them out, just for game 1.lukeyrid13 wrote:We didn't have great bats all year. Our 6-8 hitters were all around .200 so at least it wasn't a huge shock that they couldn't come through with that big hit that was needed.
