But sucks that Ohio state, and other top midwest and east coast schools, can swoop in and pick up top west coast kids whenever they want nowadays.
But the mountain we need to climb is Ohio State/Alabama/Clemson, and that mountain just got a little higher. We've already topped UW and we'll do it again regardless if they have him. I guess keeping him away from USC is good since they still have a ton of talent and if they can find someone who can actually put that talent together, they could be dangerous.
Guys, to this point, our recruiting is far outpacing the product on the field. These coaches prove themselves on the field, and we are fine. Alabama/Clemson didn’t start winning championships with their current caliber of players. They beat Florida/Texas/OSU/USC teams that, at the time, squadded nothing but 5* players with talent no better than our current roster.
Also, we currently have the most talented roster (per recruiting services) we’ve ever had, and we’ve played for 2 championships in the past decade. Talent-wise, we are close enough to break through. But we’ve gotta earn it now.
If you look at all the top programs of the past decade, they all have 1 feature back who can move the ball. When Alabama won championships prior to Tua, they didn't do it with generational talent at QB. They did it with heisman winning RB's. Georgia has a great roster but their QB play hasn't been all that great since the days of Aaron Murray and that was close to a decade ago. What they did have was a Chubb to carry the team to wins.
When you have an offense with a strong QB and weak running game, you'll win some big games, but the chances of consistently winning enough games to make the playoffs at the end of the year is low in my opinion. Example: Florida this year. Kyle Trask is a pretty good QB. Florida was the closest team to topping Alabama last season, but when you depend so much on the air attack, it's going to be inconsistent during the stretch of the season. As you'd expect, they dropped games this year that they probably should've won and didn't make the playoffs.
Once we find that feature back who can carry the team, we're heading to the playoffs. What's not encouraging is that the younger talent wasn't able to beat Dye for the backup spot last season, and Dye is an UDFA at best. I think we can do better than that. This of course assumes that the defense is decent (doesn't have to be elite).

What an inspirational message, I believe our best year will be 2022.

There's no question an all-conference RB would help us immensely and be a huge upgrade from our current stable of RBs who have game experiences. But the championship teams of the past who had game manager, facilitator type QBs had elite players littered in almost every other position on both sides of the field, in order to cover their QB's mediocrity. Teams without that number and depth of elite players still need an amazing QB to have a fighting chance in making it to the playoffs. We are no where close to Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State in terms of the number and depth of elite players we have at our positions, so I'd much prefer the next Mariota or Herbert over the next Stewart or LMJ. (I'd love to have both though!)

Amen. We need to find the next great Oregon QB(hopefully on the roster), and we've got it.
I got optimistic for a bit, but I should have known that Big Joe wasn’t going to close. The lack of DL star power, outside of the obvious of Kayvon that Heyward and Cristobal scored, continues. Here’s the position importance chart and the grade I give our recruiting for 2020-22 thus far:
1. QB: B+
2. Edge rusher/DE: D
3. OT: A+
4. Interior DL: D
5. WR: A
6. CB: A-
7. LB: A+
8. Safety: B
9. RB: B
10. G/C: A
11. TE: A
My position importance ranking is subjective, and of course a 5-star TE is more valuable than a 3-star Edge. Curious if anyone disagrees with the grades, not the ranking of import. Grades are expectation based and comparative; if we’re landing Kingsley, Banks, and Walden at OT and Franklin/Thornton at WR then the expectation is raised at other positions.
DL is the clear outlier to me. Getting Gracen Halton, hopefully we sign him, is a good sign. But Jim Mastro was they key recruiter there. Some star power is badly needed, especially at Edge. Cyrus Moss would fill that need. I had hopes for Anthony Lucas, the 4-star DT out of Arizona, as well. We could really use a game breaking defensive lineman that can get into the pocket, once KT is gone for 2022 it looks bleak compared to the rest of the roster.
