Big get for them, hopefully that steers the DEs we're both after more in our direction.

Cal is a major player for both King and Owa so this should be good news

Re: Chris Martin to Cal
This sucks, Chris Martin is a beast. Cal is kind of down right now, and the last thing we need is for them to pick up steam in recruiting.
But like steeltown said, this should give us better odds with Gabe and Owa.

Big recruits going there doesn't really bother me. Isn't that team full of 'em every year? & what have they ever accomplished? Trademarking the fade? They don't worry me. This is great news for us though. Now we have a decent chance to land both Gabe & Owa. That would be a dream come true.

You remember we are 2-3 against Cal the past 5 years, right?dthomas=ddixon wrote:Big recruits going there doesn't really bother me. True, but at least two of those W's were real flukey. Could be 5-0 or 0-5....maxduck wrote:You remember we are 2-3 against Cal the past 5 years, right?dthomas=ddixon wrote:Big recruits going there doesn't really bother me. Stewart Mandel-"From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I much prefer to watch a good spread-rushing offense over a traditional Power-I offense, and Oregon's has been the most fun by far for the past several years. It's fast, its precise, and when Chip Kelly has the right quarterback (Dixon, Masoli) at the helm, the possibility of someone ripping off a 60-yard run exists on nearly every play."

Of those years how many times has Cal finished above us in conference?maxduck wrote:You remember we are 2-3 against Cal the past 5 years, right?dthomas=ddixon wrote:Big recruits going there doesn't really bother me. So you mean the type of game where a blue chip athlete, maybe a 5* defensive end, could be the difference between a win or loss?bigsugarduck wrote:True, but at least two of those W's were real flukey. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I see Cal as a formidable opponent, both on the recruiting trail and the field.

CAL makes me confidently nervous. If that makes sense? I'm pretty sure we could and should beat them most year's but, they always seam to have some kind of X-factor that makes me nervous most year's. i.e. Deshawn Jackson or Javad Best.

I will say I'm more confident in our coaching top to bottom than Cal. Oregon is the second most successful program in the pac10 due to top 2-3 coaching and top 5-6 talent on a yearly basis. I'm not sold at all on Cal's rotating door of mediocre coordinators and Tedford's inability to snag top position coaches. Case in point, Tosh Lopoi (spelling?) thier D-line coach.
I've said this before, but the dude has very little experience coaching and is only in his mid 20's. He was a good player for Cal a few years back, but that does not mean you can or should coach. It would be like us hiring Rashad Bauman as our new Secondary coach if Neal left. Love Rashad but no way does he deserve to be a position coach at a top 20 program (yet).

Re: Chris Martin to Cal
Or a Cal DB named Marcus Ezeff, who admitted he was playing harder on that play after getting burned earler?
How about Oklahoma's LB Clint Ingram intercepting Brady Leaf late in the 2005 Holiday? Ingram admitted he was out of position for the D called on that play.
Sometimes game changing plays are just great players being in the right place at the right time, regardless of star ratings.

Re: Chris Martin to Cal
The Cal offensive coordinator is the position that is lacking. I don't understand how Jeff Tedford keeps getting duds to run the offense, and no production from the QB position.bigsugarduck wrote:Thats a good point.maxduck wrote: So you mean the type of game where a blue chip athlete, maybe a 5* defensive end, could be the difference between a win or loss?
